Best major for med school?

What's the best major To get me into med school? What it be better to get good grades in an easier science class likes physical therapy, or to take a science like biology? Is there any way you could double major?

No specific major is required. Just choose a major you like, are good at, and which you can take the pre-med course work alongside of.

That is correct and, in fact, medical schools sometimes like to admit strong students with non-typical pre-med majors. Nevertheless, speaking as a faculty member familiar with the pre-meds at my university, biochemistry and biomedical engineering seem to be the most common for pre-meds since they include the required pre-med courses as part of the major.

Biochemistry

As long as you do well in the prereqs and MCAT you are likely OK. The overwhelming advice from admissions seems to be to major in something that interests you and you are passionate about, this will make getting good grades easier as well.

The MCAT is really focused on the prereqs and most people say that additional coursework doesn’t help much outside of maybe a couple upper level bio classes. Double major is fine but it is not going to be much of an advantage and could be a large disadvantage if it brings your GPA down.

They say majoring in physics is like guarantee admission to medical school.

That could be true, I was an Astronomy major and got Cs in Organic Chemistry but As in Relativity, Quantum Mechanics and Galactic Physics and was accepted at a U.S. MD medical school.

As some above have said, do what you’re interested in. Any major is fine, just make sure you complete your pre-reqs, smash the MCAT, and you’ll be set.

They say majoring in physics is like guarantee admission to medical school.

lol…who is “they”?

There is no major that nearly guarantees admission to med school.

?? Physical therapy is a grad degree (and not easy).

I’m sorry I meant Exercise science

Specialized health sciences majors as a group score the lowest on the MCAT and have the lowest rate of acceptance into med school of any major.

Any major, including to be in conservatory of music is just fine, (yes, I known people who went to Med. School from Conservatory of Music as well as other non-science majors). You need to take the pre-reqs no matter what is your major. You need to work very hard to get highest possible (for you) college GPA, including all you rmajors and minors. Many pre-meds around my D., including her, had combo of major(s)/minor(s) basically to pursue their own interests, while they had time/chance.
