What are the differences in the dorms for guys at Hillsdale?

Things have changed slightly since I enrolled, but the gist is:

Simpson - LARGE, full of athletic types; close to science buildings and conference center, far from fine arts buildings and sports complex.

Galloway - MEDIUM, full of average types, well-rounded and quirky; central location, close to student union/dining hall and library, not very far from anything.

Niedfeldt/Koon (alternating)* - SMALL, full of studious or otherwise nerdy types; close to core academic buildings, fine arts buildings, and sports complex, far from science buildings and conference center.

Pretty clean-cut comparisons. Housing, honestly, is the part of Hillsdale that I’m most critical of (as are some visiting parents), because A.) the college seems to struggle to make room on-campus for the rising student body, and B.) while a return to classical architecture has (thankfully) been made in the past decade, the fact remains that some of the dormitories were built on the cheap in the 1960s and 1970s. Enough said.

*Please note: Niedfeldt housed men (including myself) last year and prior, while Koon housed women (they are near each other). The two were switched for this year in order to accommodate a greater percentage of women, as Niedfeldt is slightly larger. They may switch back depending on future guy-girl ratio.

Best of luck!

Thank you very much, Atticus. Very helpful!
