I scored a 560 M on the Jan SAT. I'm taking the SAT again in March. I really need help in math. Gruber's, Dr, Chung, and PWN all have CC support. Which book do you think will help me score above a 600?

Buy dr Chung

Dr Chung is tougher than the SAT and it includes problems that aren’t asked on the SAT. PWN follows the test more closely. My students love PWN the SAT and get confounded by Chung. PWN the SAT can be challenging as well - I usually don’t recommend it until my students are scoring 600. That being said - it’s one of my favorite math books.

whats good for beginners, to actually like start learning?

any thoughts on Nova’s math bible?

What is PWN?

Would you mind explaining why you recommend this book? Do you own it? Have you used it extensively? Why do you think it is valuable?

Here’s a different opinion. The Chung book is defined by its attention to details and absence of typos. On that level, it stinks. When it gets to content and relevance to the actual SAT, it just stinks a bit less.

People just seem to recommend books because others did, or because they have an interest in seeing the books selling.

Fwiw, people who come to this site and deliver sound advice OVER AND OVER are not pushing their books. In a way, that is a shame, because students are “pushed” in the direction of garbage like Chung as opposed to stick to very good books such as Gruber’s, or those two:

Oh well, things never change! The one-eyed will always lead the blind.

Hey Xiggi, which Gruber’s book are you talking about?

Everyone on here constantly talks about how good Grubers is for getting in the low 700 range. I bought the Grubers Math Workbook (I’m assuming this is the one everyone’s talking about, unless there’s some sort of other Gruber’s math book?)

Firstly, I would never recommend this book to anyone… There are SO many mistakes that it’s unbearable. Yes, a lot of them you can spot and realize it’s wrong, but a lot of them are so blatant that Gruber should be ashamed of himself… seriously. Besides for that, the book is EXTREMELY basic. I recognize almost everything there… now, I’m aware Gruber’s is not intended to be read cover to cover, but rather be used for review of nebulous topics… but besides for a few things in there, the book is extremely basic and can not in any way push you to the 700 range. I’m currently scoring in the 650 range in Math, and the only reason my score in math has gone up is through Blue Book practice. I don’t think Gruber’s has ever taught me anything, besides for a few concepts that refreshed my mind.

I can see how Gruber’s would push someone from the 500 range into the 600 range, but what book is actually best for consistently scoring in the low 700 range?

Also, did I somehow buy the wrong Gruber’s book…?
