best meal plan

what's the best meal plan for people staying on campus, non-commuter

People usually mention 14-Premiere, but a few have mentioned 19.

Your choice, really. I'll probably take 14P.

why do people usually get 14 premiere? Whats the advantages of that over the 19 nonpremiere one?

i think 14 premiere has rollover meals and you get to swipe in other ppl at the same time. 14 premiere is like 300 dollars more than 19 nonpremiere. i dont really see a point in paying 300 more unless you want to swipe ppl in and wont use all your mealsso that they'll rollover. i think i'm gonna be getting a 14 regular since i'm most likely going to be using about 14 meals and i wont be swiping anybody in.

14 Premier is the best overall meal plan. The core advantage over 19 Non-premier is that very few college students actually eat 19 meals a week due to lack of time to eat breakfast on the weekdays, and sometimes want MyPizza and buffalo wings for pizza parties or finals cramming instead. Most of the 14 Premier people I know have their meal plan synchronized to the quarter system so they run out of swipes just after finals week.

is the 11 too little? Do a lot of people get 11?

Is 19 gold okay for someone who isn't going to go home on the weekends that often?

i prefer the 14 blue. $300 is a lot. i dont care that i cant swipe anyone in or swipe multiple times in one meal period, so 14 blue is perfect for me.

if you anticipate having to swipe outside friends in or anticipate missing meals a lot (more than 300/~8 per meal if paid by cash = ~38 times), then premier might be worth it.

so let me get this straight...with premier, you get to have your meals saved and transferred over to the next quarter or something if you don't finish using your swipes, whereas with the other ones, if you have extras, you lose them if the quarter ends? premier also gets you more than 1 swipe per meal period and u can swipe your friends?

who would you swipe though besides like your family/hs friends who visit you like once a year? i mean, id assume when you eat, you eat along with other ucla students, who should have their own swipes, right?

also, can you swipe for a meal at 1 dining hall and go to another dining hall during same eating period and swipe again?

No no...

For regular, you lose your meals after every week (so say if you're doing 14, then you get 14 per week, no more, no less), while it carries over for Premiere. So you can have 12 meals one week, then 16 the next.

premier - rolls over week to week. you lose what you dont use at end of each quarter.

regular - rolls over day to day. you lose what you dont use at the end of each week.

so do people only eat 2 meals per week or what, lunch and dinner? do people not eat breakfast or what do they eat in the morning?

I usually eat 2 big meals a day, but honestly I have alot more in terms of snacks and other crap. So i mean is 2 meals enough to last?

If you're getting premiere for the rollover feature, it's not worth it. 19 regular is only like $100 more than 14 regular for the year. So if you think you need more than 14 you might as well get the 19 instead of the 14 premiere.

As the people mentioned earlier, premiere is only good for swiping others in (unless your parents visit a lot, or you have a lot of buddies who don't live in the dorms, there's no point to this) and swiping twice in a meal period (I still don't understand why people need to do this)

I'm getting 19 premiere because I think I'll eat 3 times a day. If not breakfast, then I'll eat lunch, dinner and a midnight snack. Maybe everyone will prove me wrong and I only need 14 meals a week.

I'd want to eat in places that don't come under the meal plan ... like fast food, pizza, and week-end meals out.
Plus I never eat breakfast. So even a 11 meal plan
may be one too many for me :-)

yeah im doing 14 coz i might want to not eat meal plan food all the time.

An alternative to the standard meal plans is the food court.

So after all that explaination about why premier isnt worth it, then why are you gonna get 19 premier?

anyone a 2nd or 3rd year with 14 blue having an okay time with it?

o woops, I meant 19 regular :)
