Best Meal Plan

I realize that the Liberty plan is the most popular, but I would like to save some money if I don’t need that many meals or points. Also, as an incoming freshmen, wouldn’t I benefit from eating the cafeterias to meet people?

I think it depends a lot on the dorm you are in. In King's Court for example, you may end up eating more in the cafeterias since they have one there.

How about the Quad?

I would really recommend Liberty regardless of where you are staying. Even at KC or Hill, you find that Liberty gives you just enough meals (1-2 a day is pretty good coupled with all that money from dining dollars, which too can be used at the cafeterias). I have yet to find anyone who has fully utilized the other plans simply because they use so many meals. Under Liberty, eating at two meals a day plus random occasional snacks and whatnot, I finished all the meals by the very last day of classes and had about $70 leftover in Dining Dollars

do dining dollars match exactly with normal dollars? Like, if something's 4 american dollars is it 4 dining dollars, too?

Yes dining dollars are worth the same as regular dollars.

I have the same view as deedee2344...my parents are paying full fees for my twin sister and I, and somehow when we were going through the meal plan...the quaker and the red plan looked like the best in terms of being able to save money...cause I'm pretty sure that for 4 or 5 dollars, you wont be able to get a decent lunch..or dinner..
or am I wrong?

im confused, when do we have to submit our meal plan requests?

i didn't even get meal plan information, when did you all get this?

Does anyone know how many weeks are in a semester? I should probably know but I don't....

pinkmuscat: I heard somewhere that it was June 22nd but I'm not 100% sure.

SexyYetiBeast: Check Campus Express. There's some stuff about each plan and everything there.

i actually have no clue how many weeks we'll have each semester, but on the meal plan site, ti hink it's when you say you want more information on each meal plan, it tells you approximately how many meals per week each eal plan consists of

Thanks, I actually just found that yesterday, lol.

Hey guys, I dont know what you are talking about saving money on... the four plans offered to freshman all cost the same amount of money. The Liberty Plan is the most recommended and I really think that is the way to go. The school charges about $12 a meal for the meals you get and with dining dollars you can get a decent meal for between $7-10 and the dining dollars are much better for when you are out on the move and I have met very few people who havent used up there dining dollars over the course of the year. If you thought that you would spend more time in the cafeteria I would probably only move up one to the blue plan ... but I really dont see how the quaker plan is that good because you are going to be attached to the cafeteria and express meals which will get old fast! And I last of all eating with dining dollars or at the cafeteria probably isnt going to gain you a whole lot more social experience because after the first month of school you are just going to be eating with people you know or that your friends know. Unless you are particularly outgoing.

DO NOT get the quaker meal plan. There is no way, unless you are an athlete who has morning practice every day and has a ridiculous appetite, that you will use all the meals. + I guarantee that many will get sick of the meals. Breakfast ends at 10AM and 75% of the campus is asleep / running to class at that time.

If you're living at hill, maybe you should consider the blue plan, since the convenience of having a dining hall in the basement makes having more meals worth it. If you have the red/quaker plan, be prepared to use up all your meals in the last two weeks of each semester frantically buying 4 bottles of water per meal at express, since meals don't carry over to the next semester (it's a terrible waste of money).

Don't worry so much about running out of meals. Get liberty, and if you feel that you will need more meals at the end of the semester, campus express lets you change your meal plan once per semester, so you can upgrade to blue or maybe even red. Also, everyone has a certain number of "guest meals" (not sure how many we'll get next year) that you can use on anyone, including yourself. I bummed a lot of meals of my friends that way

well, the thing is I'm in KCECH now, and I know that it is very convenient (or so some people said) to get the quaker plan cause the cafeteria is right there..but from what you guys are saying I should def. not get the quaker plan right? is the blue plan a good choice? red or blue? I want to get this over with!!

the quaker might seem like the best deal to you, but the thing is you will almost definitely have a lot of meals left over, which is a waste of money. Picking one of the other meal plans with more dining dollars lets you enjoy houston more. Moravian Cafe might start taking dining dollars too! (mmm taco bell). I personally started off with the 2nd most meals (red?) and even though I lived in hill, I had around 50 dining dollars left and 40 meals unused at the end of the semester. Even while wasting all my meals on bottles of water and granola bars, I still had 20 meals that eventually went to waste.

If you're that worried about running out of meals, you can always get the red plan (2nd most meals i think). A ton of meals, enough for two a day, and if you feel like you're running out you can always upgrade midsemester to the quaker plan

Whats the breakdown for the blue plan and liberty plan in terms of meals per week and dining dollars per semester?

Can you use your dining dollars to buy meals
