study vocabulary from prep books and take practice tests on the reading comprehension to improve your critical reading. vocab is an aspect of the test that you need to study consistently over a period of time to see results, but results definitely will come. My school has vocab quizzes each week since freshman year on words that appear often on the SAT, and my score increased dramatically.
For writing, also do some more practice tests and read the review section of a prep book (i.e princeton review, kaplan, collegeboard, etc). there are only a certain number of different ways that the SAT tries to trick you and once you recognize these you should score higher.
Good luck

Read read read. I started reading the newspaper either before or after school everyday. At first it was a lot to get through, but after a few weeks I really started to enjoy it. Also, many papers are now free online.
In addition to this, practicing vocabulary and reading passages will definitely help, and there seem to be threads dedicated only to which book is best.
