Thanks drek! Yeah, I know generally which schools have programs, I’m just wondering if any have better programs than others. Probably hard to say…it’s a rather obscure major.

It really depends on what you are trying to learn. For example, if you are interested in learning the language (Arabic) Georgetown is a very good place to go.

Another University you might want to look into is University of Virginia. Not a bad option to get an overall experience in other programs as well.

Also, if you just want to learn the language, I know many people who graduated and then went to community college to take courses there.

I know a girl who graduated from Columbia, she is now working, but she is taking classes at community college with me.

As I mentioned before, it really depends what you are going after.

American University has some Middle East Concentrations as well…in their school of International Studies (undergrad).

Good luck. If you want more information, please send me a Private Message. I don’t check this board as frequently. If I get an email (via Private Message) I will reply back.

Hope this helps.

Also take into consideration the University of Texas at Austin. The Middle Eastern Studies program is legit and the Arabic program is a Flagship program meaning it is funded by the government (aka heavily recruited from). Plus it doesn’t hurt that the most commonly used books to teach Arabic are written here

Georgetown!

I’d like to to throw out George Washington’s MES program here: [Institute for Middle East Studies - The Elliott School of International Affairs - The George Washington University](<a href=“Institute for Middle East Studies - The George Washington University”>Institute for Middle East Studies - The George Washington University)

Also, Fordam has a pretty decent MES major and so does William & Mary and Brandeis. Not sure how great they are, but I have read about students from all of these universities, as well as the ones previously mentioned, go onto great careers or grad schools.

I can definitely vouch for UT’s program. Some of the authorities in Arabic Literature teach at UT, and I know that several professors affiliated with the program have worked with the state department and beyond.

EDIT: Don’t forget Georgetown!
