Best music?

My nerdiest (i use this as a term of endearment for my really intelligent and studious friends) friends are always the ones with the best music taste, so why not consult the biggest college forum ever? I really like indie/alternative music personally. love vampire weekend, mgmt, strokes, vaccines, shins, arctic monkeys, tame impala, bombay bicycle club, two door cinema club, etc!

Listen to “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea” by Neutral Milk Hotel.

@DiscipulusBonus‌ I actually just came across Neutral Milk Hotel a few days ago and really like that song! I recognize your profile picture : )

I LOVE Indie/Alternative rock, but, honestly, I usually listen to Today’s Hits on the radio. I like Latch by Disclosure and Trumpets by Jason Derulo. :wink:

All subjective but here’s a collection: Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, The Wonder Years, Say Anything, Elder Brother, The Hotelier, Mansions, Misser, The Story So Far

Idk, whenever I try to talk to ppl about my music, they tend to run away frightened. I’m big into rock and metal (I’ve seen Slipknot, A7X, Trivium, 3DG, etc.) Any other metalheads out here? \m/

I dislike all music except classical music.

^srsly doe?

I like a hodgepodge of music. I love electronic subgenres (Glitch Hop, for etc), and a great example of this is the Glitch Mob and Phutureprimitive, Kodomo, etc. I also like any music with the violin, or instrumentation, not necessarily classical music (gaelic music [look up “Heart of the Ocean” by Gaelic storm, lindsey stirling, piano guys, dallas string quartet, etc]

What’s even more awesome is when strings and electronic are combined together!

But my favorite groups/musicians include:

-The Glitch Mob, Lindsey Stirling, Phutureprimitive, Gaelic Storm, Vitamin and Dallas string quartet, The Secret Garden, Helen Jane Long (solo piano like yiruma), etc.

I love to meet people with diverse music styles! For me, Kpop is my favorite. For each boy group or girl group, there is a slightly different style to fit your taste - rock, ballad, 80s, electronic, hip-hop, and so on. And yes, I may not be able to understand the language, but this allows me to focus more on the melody and instrumentation, which I find fascinating to examine as someone who enjoys composing and arranging music. Moreover, it’s not just the music, but also the people you start to love, so there’s a strong fandom aspect of it. My favorites are U-KISS, SHINee, Infinite, Block B, and B.A.P. :slight_smile: but Big Bang is the one group that everyone simply must check out…I insist.

Besides Kpop, music is a lot about the feeling. Would you all care to recommend me anything? I love anything with a distinctive melody and variations as well. Also, music that has a sad message but is upbeat with a clean synthetic sound is great - you know, the type that takes you on a journey.

Has anyone heard of the oldest music? Hurrian Hymn No. 6?

Listen to Miike Snow

<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube;
<a href=“Miike Snow - Black and Blue - YouTube”>Miike Snow - Black and Blue - YouTube;

My music taste includes Panic! At the Disco, The Offspring, Fallout Boy, and Rise Against.

Country, hard alternative, rap, and RnB. Artists include: Luke Bryan, Jon Langston, Sam Hunt, FGL, Story of the Year, ADTR, Kevin Gates, Drake, 112, Pretty Ricky

Mostly singer/songwriter for me (Fionn Regan is the love of my life). Also, certain musicals (Spring Awakening/Frühlings Erwachen, Rent, Les Mis, Jesus Christ Superstar). And classical (the Russians are the best - Rachmaninov, Shostakovich, Stravinsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, etc). And indie/alternative (Fleet Foxes, DCFC, Of Monsters and Men, Foster the People). And metal /prog stuff of all kinds (Opeth, Black Sabbath…). And FOLK, how did I forget that?? (Oscar Isaac, Pete Seeger). Also, obnoxious foreign music (Deichkind, Rammstein, Midicronica, Maximum the Hormone, Nujabes). And Kpop, which I’ll put in its own category (EXO, Big Bang, Block B, Teen Top…).

My dad is a musician so I get exposed to a lot of weird music.

Ben Rector. That is all.

Led Zeppelin

I’m usually listening to:
AC/DC, Phillip Phillips, Jack Johnson, Eminem, The Script, One Republic (NOT One Direction), Barenaked Ladies, Train, B.O.B, Coldplay, Angels and Airwaves, 30 Seconds To Mars, Dropkick Murphy’s, Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR), Gino Matteo, Fun., Paramore, Imagine Dragons, etc.

Two Steps from Hell, John Dreamer, and Capo Productions have awesome instrumentals.

I’ll listen to any music reall, except for pure rap and heavy metal/screamo.
Other than that it’s hard to say what my favorite is. I do have much greater respect for music theater actors/actresses and classically trained singers and instrumentalists, however, because they actually have real genuine talent and work really, really hard to make it to the top. Unlike many contemporary popular artists, classically trained musicians and musical theater performers work so much harder than them and will likely have much more genuine passion for music. They weren’t just given free, and random opportunities with the promise of fame and fortune as a primary motivator. Classical musicians and musical theater performers often truly love what they do, and they have to have passionate dedication and REAL talent; not a synthesized talent in a studio where hardly any improvements from the person are necessary when everything can be made to sound in tune and on pitch. I might just be saying this on a bias because I want to be a vocal performance/opera singer, but you can’t deny that there’s at least some truth in it.
For instance, why is Katy Perry more famous than the operatic coloratura soprano Diana Damrau when she can hardly sing a single note on key when she performs live? It astounds and irritates me that singers like Katy Perry become so famous in the media, but the heavenly voice of someone who actually can sing angelically LIVE go so unnoticed by our modern world.

Lots of alternative rock or anything with a heavy beat and confusing/vague lyrics. I like MGMT, Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys, The White Stripes, Muse, Gorillaz, Hoodie Allen, Cage the Elephant, Atmosphere, Miike Snow, The Beatles, Foster the People, Vampire Weekend, The Killers, M83. But my all time favorite song is Hotel California by the Eagles

@AliceKettle I agree! I have sung opera and I appreciate the genuine talent of the pros. It takes months for me to perfect a piece - I can’t imagine the amount of hard work pros put in. That’s why I also like musical theatre and classical musicians. No lip syncing, no digital corrections–just hard work infused with beautiful talent. Diana Damrau rocks! (I also really like Carla Mafioletti!) If only I could sing Queen of the night like Diana! (I’m not even close!!!) :)
