I am currently trying to decide what I am interested in studying and what schools offer what programs. I really like Rutgers and TCNJ, and wonder which is better for this field, or any other schools in NJ which offer this as a 4-year major.

check out Montclair

also Rowan

I visited Montclair, the thing that concerns me is my GPA/SAT scores are in the top couple percent of the school, and I know it’s not a highly academic major, but I’m not sure how comfortable or challenged I would really be there.

Why not venture out of New Jersey?

The NYFA is the best school in the area as far as film, etc. I attended Rutgers Newark and had taken a page to stage course and it was great. Great school all around if you looking to study and get your degree. If you go there and are looking to party you will be gone before you know it, frat row is not necessarily graduation row my friends. I do not have anything against frats, but my brother was the president of a frat and he struggled to graduate and my frat days knocked me off my course as well. I am just telling you from experience. Sort of off subject, but I thought that it would be worth the mention.

Well I am only applying in-state, not really worried about partying although I know RU’s reputation for that, so you’re saying Rutgers offers a good communications program? Could you possibly tell me a bit about it if you know anything?

My son is in the television/film production major at Rowan and loves it. Many opportunities for hands-on experiences, clubs, radio and tv stations, trips, film festivals, etc. If you want to stay in nj, I would highly recommend looking further into their award-winning program. Rowan also offers merit scholarships which are becoming harder to get at nj state schools. Good luck!
