Hi, I’m going into my senior year this year; I am looking in to a business major or economics major. I currently have a 3.4 gpa but that will go up since I slacked my freshmen year. I have a 500 writing, 620 reading, and 570 math on the SAT. I have taken many IB and honors courses. I want to know what the best business school is that I can go to. I am looking at Syracuse, but it is expensive and a bit of a reach. I am also considering UB or a SUNY/CUNY school. What is my best option?
Out of cunys definitely Baruch. I currently attend and am in my second year. It is well known across the country for business. There are so many opportunities here. Always recruitments on campus from well known companies such as JP Morgan. Some people always come to class in suits and ties for events that are always happening for business students. The business classes are also known for being challenging. It’s great for accounting, finance etc. IFfyour not a business student your basically constantly ask what you are doing there. I plan on transferring just because I want to major in Biology and am not interested in the whole business atmosphere but there are just so many opportunites. Definitely visit and consider it. For sunys I heard Binghamton is great for business but then again I know students who transferred from bing to baruch because it’s located in the finance district.
Just to add to my previous post, if your interested in the full college experience, this is not the place. It’s a commuter school so people just come and leave. You will make friends, but there’s no school spirit, people hardly attend any events and nearly everyone lives at home with their parents so no parties. Business students I know, love it because they have so much in common with everyone.
The Zarb Business School at Hofstra University is a really good one in New York, also. I’m a current business student at Hofstra (marketing) and working on one of their dual-degree programs (BBA/MBA in 5 years, https://www.hofstra.edu/admission/adm_dualmajors.html). The school is very supportive of my individual interests and my path. Because the school is medium-sized, we receive very individualized attention, and many professors and faculty members will go out of their way to do favors for us. Also, Hofstra puts a lot of focus on placing students in internships, which are very crucial in the business field. Many of my professors have worked with me individually to get me where I want to be, and the Business School as well as the Career Center are always holding events like resume critique nights, alumni nights, networking events, and speaker events to further your interests in the business world. Check it out!
