Hello -- just beginning my searches for schools for my son who will be a junior. Wanted to know any advice you have on what the best resources out there for:
- "Best of" colleges
- Best sources for scholarships
- Any other great resources that can help inform a parent?

The volume of information is STAGGERING! And there are so many websites that want you to PAY for their informatioon. I don't mind paying, but I'd like to know I'm getting VALUE.

And do the public or school libraries subscribe to any of these resources?

Thanks for your tips.

What's he interested in majoring in at this point?

He is looking for an education major, with science emphasis so far. Thanks.

Do all libraries have these resources?

FANTASTIC book that I use. My mom got it for my brother in his college search 2 years ago. Obviously some of the SAT scores and admission numbers might be dated (it's only 2 years old, but those seem to change anually) but those numbers are easy to find and the rest of the information is awesome. Stuff about the social scene, college specialties, and life at 328 colleges. It's a great resource, since it gives pros and cons, and talks about things people going to college realistically need to know. It's got 2 pages about each of the colleges, with the boring number information in the margins and a several paragraph write-up on each one. It was the first college book I read and I was very disappointed when I started looking at other ones. Nowhere near as helpful.

I don't know about online information sources, but I imagine most libraries probably don't subscribe to them, since I think they focus on more general databases than something as specific as a college database. Your library probably has plenty of books that would be helpful though.
