Was thinking of beginning a search for apts in SLO, does anyone know the average price for a decent 1 bd or studio, or which apartments complexes are best to live in?

I recommend Mustang Village for off campus. It is right next to the campus. Also within walking distance to Albertsons, restaurants, banks. Few Minutes walk to the Orfalea Business School which is the closes.

The majority of people I have talked to have complained that mustang village is bug infested and pretty bad overall- have you heard otherwise?

TeslaKoil, I heard the same thing about Mustang Village, I’m transfering there in in the fall and my uncle who lives there said it is not too great. I was planning on going down there in a couple weeks to check it out.

I’ve some *pretty *bad reviews about Mustang Village. I would say that the majority of people who wrote reviews had a lot of negative comments about this place. I bet you can find something nicer in the same price range. When my daughter moves off campus her junior year, she and some friends are interested in renting a ***house ***as opposed to an apartment in one of these noisy complexes. Often you’ll get a yard and sometimes even are allowed to have a cat. And, most of the time the house is in a quieter, residential area. Then you can go to those loud, apartment parties and come back to your mellow household. :)

Hey guys, I recently accepted Cal Poly’s offer and will be attending there next fall. Are there any standout halls on-campus that I should choose or are they all pretty much equal? I’ve heard good things about Sierra Madre and Tenaya, but I would just like a second opinion.
Thanks

its difficult to live in a house as a first year- since I know no one. Does anyone know of quieter complexes?

TeslaKoil—are you a transfer? If so, I can understand you wanting to live where there are more students. If you go on Cal Poly’s Housing Page, they list some off-campus apartments. I know there’s a list of rental management companies somewhere, as well.

If you’re a freshman, then I would highly recommend living ON campus. In fact, if I were a 2nd or 3rd year and new to the area and school, I would even consider living in the designated apartment complexes for transfers. A good way to meet other students. Then you can get together and rent something off campus the next year(s).

Hi Tesla, my son lives in an apartment as a first year because of some medical issues. It has not been easy because of difficulty in meeting people and having to cook for himself, but he seems to be mastering the social part of it (not sure if I should put an smiley or sad face here…). My son is possibly looking for a roommate and has been directed to the ASI web site, which is for Cal Poly students only, in order to look for roommate candidates and/or to list his extra room for rent: [Enrich Your College Experience](http://www.asi.calpoly.edu/). On that site, you can find classified ads for housing. Craigslist is another option, although more public, obviously.
I am not sure how to find a quiet apartment complex in SLO. There is enough of a party issue in town that there is a strict noise ordinance and the police are fairly active about enforcing noise violations and related problems.
Good luck.

I’ve been in Mustang for 4 years and I’ve had no horror stories. At least no horror stories that were Mustang’s fault. If you bug maintenance about stuff, things usually get fixed. Also note that Mustang has changed ownership a couple of times in the last couple of years. So… Meh. Oh, and some parts of the complex are a lot nicer than others. That much is pretty obvious from being on the ground here. However, they have been improving the worst bits of the complex over the last few years. My old apartment out in Mustang II got new flooring while I was out there. Then again, your experience might be different. I’m not quite willing to endorse Mustang, even if it “isn’t that bad”.

I linked to most of the other local property management companies in [another thread.](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/cal-poly-san-luis-obispo/1090806-off-campus-housing-married-students.html) You might also check out CollegeHuts.com , a local student-based startup with rental listings.
