Best on campus housing for transfers at Berkely?

I know Cal decisions aren't out yet, but i want to do some research ahead of time..

So what residence hall is best? Any past transfers want to share their experiences. It'll be helpful to state the name of the hall or apt. and whether it was single, double, or triple. Pros and cons.?

thanks..

are you guys gonna have housing on campus (dorms)? I know it would be nice cause there are a lot of ppl you can meet, but i would rather get an individual room for the sake of privacy and saving money

I am thinking of Unit 2 Wada (upper division housing); though I hear the social atmosphere can be a bit dead, which is a bit of a negative for me.

I'm also thinking of Wada because of the relative low cost and close proximity to the campus. The social aspect doesn't worry me too much since I'm pretty sure I'll be able to make friends in classes or through parties and whatnot.

Yea, it's kind of a strength in itself, too; the rooms can actually be used to study without the constant noise which seems to accompany frosh dorms.

Hows Wada in Unit 2 different from all the other rooms in Unit 2?

I met a person here who transferred into berkeley and went into the wada apt, she told me that it lacks life and that she doesnt really like any of her roommates. I would rather do a single suite or a double suite in one of the units; its better.

They are reserved for upper division/transfer students.

With freshmen?

Singles in units cost $1,400 a month, Doubles in units cost $1,213 a month.
That's after removing the value of the meal plans.

Wada costs $948 a month.

Up to you.

so basically, if we don't pick Wada and ended up in any other unit, we're going to be mixed with the Freshmen?

Don't get too focused on Wada Hall. I applied for housing there last year and ended up in a double mini-suite in Unit 1. The mini-suites in Units 1 and 2 are spacious, new, and quiet (compared to the standard dorms). Two bedrooms share a bathroom and a "common area" (a BS description--it's just an 8-foot entryway) in the enclosed suite. There is main door in addition to the bedroom doors, so no lack of privacy. The bathroom is spacious and is cleaned weekly.

The mini-suites are a mix of all years of students, which I believe is better, as I found it helpful to ask the continuing students for advice during the first semester. In my suite of four, there are two freshmen and a 3rd year continuing student.

Yea, and apparently when living in Wada, many of the residences buy a minimal meal plan and eat breakfast/lunch in the dorms since the kitchen is larger than normal.

Is that description for Wada or the mini-suites?

why dont you guys just rent a room outside of the university?

AdamantineX - I think all first year freshman and transfers should experience life in dorms, and I would consider Campus Apartments close enough to the "dorm life"

BDS - Double Mini-Suites cost ~$1,400 a month compared to Wada's $958 a month. From what you described, Wada seems about the same thing as the Double Mini-Suites. So what is it about the Mini-Suites that deems the value to be $400+ more a month than Wada?

Disclaimer: I have subtracted the meal plan value from the Unit's total price
$14,686 - $2251.67 / 9 = $1381.99 per month

Yea, I also wanna live in a dorm once I transferred but I think it would not be possible because I would need to save as much money as possible.

I think Wada is definitely affordable for a Residence Hall apartment.

hows the food at UCB?

lol....

we don't even know the decision yet and we're already....

lol...

i know..... do you think fin aid would cover my housing if i go dorm?
