Hi all,
First time posting, but I'm a long time lurker who really appreciates CC for all the great advice! My son is a rising senior and we've just found out that his high school has cancelled his fall AP Computer Science A class and his spring AP Statistics class. (It's a small, private, fairly rigorous high school with a solid reputation but they just didn't get the enrollment in these two classes to justify offering them in the current economic environment.)

The ds could really benefit from these two subjects, so I'm researching on-line classes. (The high school's modified block schedule makes it pretty much impossible to zip over to the local cc and take a class.) So, the Dean of Academics will allow the ds to self-study/take an on-line class during a study hall period. I've found all sorts of options (local cc on-line classes, MIT OpenCourseWare, Stanford EPGY On-line High School, etc.). If you were in our shoes, what would you do? Any favorite on-line classes for these two subjects? Any personal experience to share? TIA!!!!

There is a website I came across called EIMacs ([eIMACS: Home](http://www.eimacs.com/)), which teaches AP computer science. Also, per above, Florida Virtual School sounds nice.

I agree with pow3rbook (and had a sneaking suspicion that he would post here). FLVS has the best online classes that you will find anywhere. However, the maturity level is a bit low.

Well, if all else fails, both subjects are relatively easy to pick up through self-studying given enough motivation. Programming is one of those things some people learn for fun, and Stats is something a lot of people (at my school) have studied on their own.

If you’re are planning on Florida Virtual School you should hurry. With budget cuts there are threats of canceling “elective” classes (like AP Computer Science A) from Florida Virtual School. I have taken three classes with Florida Virtual School, none of them AP. However, I would still recommend it. Also, in Florida both AP Stats and AP Computer Sci are considered year long courses (you can still do it in a semester though. I finished 11 weeks worth of work in 2 weeks, during summer, for my 2nd semester of Physics Honors). Also, be prepared to read things over because one of my friends took Algebra 2 on FLVS and she said that the way math was presented was very confusing.

^ That was old dude. It’s not going to happen anymore, at least not for this school year.

I also took AP Comp Sci with FLVS, and it was an amazing course. I got a 5 and an A, and I highly recommend it. Since you’re OOS, you have to pay about $400, but it is definitely worth it.

I took the Apex course for AP Statisitics and I really liked it. It was very thorough and had a good review section for the ap exam. Also, the MC quizzes and the unit tests were very representative of the types of questions you would encounter on the ap exam.

killer2021 - FLVS is not that expensive. Also, the course quality is phenomenal. And perhaps the original poster would like a nice, weighted grade for his hard work.

I am debating between these sites to do AP Computer Science A : https://www.eimacs.com/ , FLVS and CTY ( John Hopkins ) …some of the above posts are old discussions. I am wondering if anyone has any comment from their recent experience through any of these sites ? A self paced online course will be better for me, looking at my next year school schedule. Appreciate any advice/tips
