My HS Junior has completed 2 years of HS French is now rethinking stopping at French III. Now feeling they should have taken French IV this year. The HS is recommending completing a summer program through Educere, but I am wondering: 1/if it is a solid program 2/if there is any other summer programs out there. Looking forward to hearing about the experience others have had.
What state do you live in?
We live in the northeast of the US. One daughter participated in an intensive French immersion course over a few weeks in the summer in Canada and liked it quite a bit. This is however in-person. You live on campus. The first day they explain the rules in English and test your knowledge of French. Then you speak only French 24 hours per day for the next 2 1/2 or 5 weeks (depending upon how long a course you sign up for). They have lessons in the morning (multiple levels available, from complete beginner to near fluent), and participate in activities in the afternoon. The activities are in French, but are fun things to do. It was surprisingly reasonably priced. There are programs for high school students, and also different programs for adults and university students. I know of programs in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec City, and Montreal. However my understanding is that there are also courses further west.
