It’s that time of year at my school! October and it’s advising season as well as the midpoint of the semester soon! I am just figuring out which classes to take my final semester as an undergrad and be on my way out! To note I will just be taking 12 credits my final semester!
Lately I’ve been scheduling my classes on M/W/F in recent semesters and T/TH a couple times and noticed this coming Spring semester catalog of classes I want to and are required to take as to when they are offered hasn’t been kind to me.
If I go ahead and attempt a M/W/F plan again having the flexibility of two open days again, I’d have to have class 9-11 those days and a senior capstone class from 12-1:50 (though only the 2nd half of the semester), so in other words my first half would seem as easy as could be while the 2nd half could get more intense and has that class 2 hours a day in compressed form. (Therefore a 9-2 straight day then.)
My other option that I’m okay with is having 2 classes everyday Monday-Friday. (I almost think this is the best option in preparing for the working world.)
M/W/F: Classes at 10 and 11
T/TH: Classes at 9:30 and 11 with my senior capstone class happening the entire semester, not just half.
Both of these schedule options include a required elective to take and my required minor classes, and as well as the required capstone course!
Sounds like a hard decision. With the first plan, you have tuesdays and thursdays off but the capstone class will be crammed into one quarter making it harder. With the second plan, your capstone class will be less difficult due to spreading it out over the entire semester, but you no longer have tuesdays and thursdays off. Tough decision.
If it was me in this situation, I would probably want to do the second plan because it’s easier to pay attention in shorter classes (I’m assuming if you take your capstone class over the semester instead of just the 2nd quarter that the class will be significantly shorter than 1 hour and 50 minutes long, right?) and the capstone class overall will just be more difficult and time consuming if crammed into a quarter instead of spread out throughout the semester. Plus, with the Mon-Fri schedule it doesn’t look like you have a particularly large amount of time you have to spend attending classes in any day anyways (and you seem to end your last class of the day pretty early), so despite not having tuesdays and thursdays off, you should still have plenty of spare time after classes on those days.
However, if you’re confident in your ability to succeed in this capstone class enough where you really feel you will do well even if the class is spread out over just the 2nd quarter instead of spread out over the entire semester, then it may be preferable to do the first plan to get tuesdays and thursdays off (overall I guess it depends on how you feel about taking the capstone class at a faster pace).
Motivation to have Tuesday and Thursday off? Is it to make work or other commitments easier to schedule?
I should mention I’ve had Tuesday/Thursday free in recent semesters as more flexibility of being available for work and when I was a commuter it helped lessen the time of doing it, but now I live in an apartment. Correction I’d have class 9-12 if did a M/W/F schedule in the spring, classes 9, 10, 11 and then 12pm in the second half if I take the compressed senior capstone section.
