Well, if you are staying with relatives and want to do a down and back with Amherst. I'd also do that with Bowdoin...up and down and a stop in Freeport. How well do you know your relatives? I can't imagine doing Yale and Middlebury a single day. I'd do Yale as a single day. And when I do Middlebury, if Dartmouth is of interst do that because you will drive right through Hanover up to Middlebury. I did UVM from the Boston area and that drive is a good four hours. I stayed overnight. Way too much driving for one day. And I would never do more than two colleges a day, unless you were driving by a campus and did a drive through. Oh, Bates and Colby and Bowdoin are all near each other (relatively speaking). And I agree with above...do not under any circumstances try to go from Middlebury to Bowdoin across Vt, NH, and into Maine. That would be a nice 2 day drive during peak foliage season.

How can you say that without knowing what BollyGal is looking for in a college? What if Middlebury or Bowdoin are first or second choices?<<

Please forgive me. Let me try again:
BollyGal - You're looking at sixteen hours of drive time to visit these four colleges. To put that into perspective, it's about the same as driving from Chicago to New Orleans. The travel-time outlier is Middlebury College, but if that's your #2 behind Yale, you can save several hours of driving if you skip Bowdoin.

Driving time from Yale (New Haven) to Middlebury is just over 4 hours. For those from the Western U.S., that's a golf put.

Ah ... but in New England it's a pretty twisty golf put!
