Admission to med school is NOT prestige-dependent.
In short, if you really want to work in the US, you should attend a university where you can get a full ride or a full tuition scholarship, and save the money your can get from your government (either all at once for med school or if you’re allowed to “take it and bank it for later” in order to maximize the amount - assuming it’s a grant, not a loan, or a “zero interest loan”?) THEN use your money specifically for med school.
There will be few med schools in the US that admit you and most of those will want to see a superb record (grades, MCAT scores, research, medical experience/volunteering.)
So, the path is narrow.
Or, you could become a computer engineer. Or a Physician’s Assistant.
becoming an md takes a lot of time, money and effort- as I am sure you are aware
I think you should look into all of your options and see what will work best for you personally
there are plenty of amazing US med schools besides harvard and stanford!
Get your medical degree in Sweden. Then, if you still are interested in working in the US, you can take the foreign medical exams and apply for a medical residency in the US. That would bring you here for the length of time that the residency lasts. After completing your residency (or residencies if you want more than one specialization) there is a good chance that you could find a permanent job in the US. You might need to start out working in an underserved part of the US, but eventually you would be able to get your green card (legal permanent resident status) and then work anywhere in the US that you choose.
Many, many physicians in the US have followed that pathway. To learn more about it, start here: http://www.usmle.org/
Thanks, I’ll have read more into it.
