Best paying major for people who are good at English and Social Studies.

Hello!

I am currently researching what major I want to apply for. I am a senior in high school in the USA. My problem is what major to decide on. I am currently in the top 5% of my graduating class. I have never gotten a B in any english or social studies course. I have gotten 4 B’s in total in Math and Science (2 in Honors Bio, 1 in Honors Precalc, Expecting 1 in Calc 3 :/). Even though I am taking the most rigorous course load offered by my school, I am not a topper in math or science. I exceed standards for these subjects but it is not like I am a state champ in math or science. Although, I have many achievements in the world of english and social studies. I got top 5 in state for Speech team and I am the speech team captain. Also, BPA president for my school. I was in nationals for BPA extemperous speaking. My problem is most of the majors that give a big pay load relates to math or science. These subjects I am very good in, but not at the top. For my english and social studies classes, I was known as the best in these areas. I will be pursuing a masters degree after my undergrad. So, I was curious to know your input on my situation, and what major I should pursue that can give me the most money. I know it is not about the money in life and that stuff, but I want money in order to provide for my needs as well as others. Also, I am indian so high standards from my parents. My parents are already furious that I do not want to pursue math or science, so help me out here guys!

Typed this on my phone sorry for typos and such …

Majors don’t provide money; jobs do. You can major in English and become a CEO and make millions, or you can major in physics and become a social worker and make less than $50K a year. It’s true that certain majors have higher average salaries than others, but that’s by and large because of the kind of work those majors choose to (and in some cases are qualified to) do rather than because the major itself confers a higher salary.

Besides, you’ll see a lot of people on here say “play the long game.” Humanities and social science majors usually start out making less than math or natural/physical science majors, but over time they catch up to and maybe even surpass those majors as they go through their careers and ascend to higher positions in their companies. I know lots of humanities and social science majors who are making good money in their current careers, especially (but not only) the ones who went to graduate school.

There are lots of things you can major in. Out of the social science majors, economics and political science have the highest average salaries (although remember, you are playing the long game - plus remember that it’s your job that confers salary).
