Best Picture 2006

(If I'm allowed to have this on a college forum... Sorry if I'm not, I just wanted to bring some levity... You don't have to read the thread if you don't wanna.)

Well, to sort of break from all the stressful college stuff for a minute...

Academy Award noms were today, dunno if anyone here really knows/cares, but I'm a big movie freak, so I sorta do...

And yeah, I was wondering what you guys think'll be crowned Best Pic of 2006, or which of the nominees was your fav.

Babel, The Departed, Letters from Iwo Jima, Little Miss Sunshine, and The Queen = The nominees, btw.

I'm seeing Letters on Thursday night with my friend and am really excited, especially cause I really like foreign language films.
I've also seen Little Miss Sunshine and The Departed, which both were amazing (the latter even more so).

I think Babel and The Departed have the most critics support though, so my bet is that either one of those will win.

Little Miss Sunshine won the PGA, that basically puts it ahead of the competition.

Babel had almost many detractors as supporters.

I'm just glad Dreamgirls wasn't nominated.

THE DEPARTED! Best movie ever.

Yeah, The Departed, for real, is amazing.

And haha, I was shocked about the Dreamgirls snub -- Yet it got the most noms of anything, so weird (although 3 were for best song so what the heck, haha, those shouldn't count).

Scorcese better freakin win too, I like listening to his voice.

I would go with Little Miss Sunshine, I absolutly loved that movie. The Departed was also very good, but I don't think it deserves best picture.

I saw Babel a few days ago, and while very powerful, and beautifully done, it's something I do not ever want to see again. I really liked it, but I also don't think it deserves best picture

seriously, screw dreamgirls. so glad, does not deserve to be up there.

im excited becasue departed is coming back to my theater as a $5 movie! i missed it originally so im def seeing it this weekend.

ive wanted to see letters for so long, but it still has not come. i hope it does. i love clint eastwood movies, he's so great.

im thinking it's between babel and the departed. i really wish pan's labyrinth was nominated though, that was a fantastic film and will surely grab best foreign film.

All of the movies up for best picture don't deserve it. IWO JIMA IS A FREAKING FOREIGN FILM... that is against the Academy Awards's rules!

And, that is why Little Miss Sunshine should win.

I'm happy that Dreamgirls got disregarded. Children of Men was by far the best movie of 2006... such a shame it got snubbed.

Foreign films being nom'd for BP isn't against Oscar rules... Remember Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon ?
<3 that movie.

Letters isn't even a foreignforeign film, since Clint made it.

I really wanna see Pan's Labyrinth though, so badly... Everyone said it's amazing, and my friend even saw it 3x.

the departed

LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE!!!

She's a super freak, super freak!!

It soo so so deserves to win. Although, I would not be completely upset if The Queen won. The Departed was great as well. But LMS was just too too funny. I didn't really care for Dream Girls.

little miss sunshine

Little Miss Sunshine all the way. What other movie has a suicidal Proust Scholar, a color-blind Nietzschian, a little girl who strips, a heroine addict grandfather, a motivational speaker wanna be, and a van that runs when you run.

All the Departed has are headshots.
Babel, haven't seen it yet.
Letter for Iwo Jima, heard it's good but haven't seen it yet.

"IWO JIMA IS A FREAKING FOREIGN FILM... that is against the Academy Awards's rules!"

Letters From Iwo Jima and Flags of Our Fathers were both really good. I'm glad the Academy picked 1 of the 2 films to represent Clint Eastwood's directing efforts. I also think the better film of the 2 was chosen. Foreign films aren't banned from the best picture nomination. Life is Beatuiful and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon (which someone said before) were both foreign films that were nominated for best picture.

I remember my friend wanted me see Iwo Jima one of the first days it came out. I was worried that it wouldn't be worth it since the film had subtitles. Let me tell you though, it was worth it. It was a powerful film with a great performance by Ken Wantanabe from the Last Samurai.

I think Little Miss Sunshine is the underdog, but the winner most likely will be either Babel or The Queen.

I'm psyched to see Pan's Labyrinth; apparently it's the best movie ever.

Little Miss Sunshine

Great movie.

Superfreak!

I rewatched that part like, 4930954065 times on DVD

The Departed

In the Pursuit of Happyness

Hands down, the two best this year.

I'm rooting for Little Miss Sunshine, perhaps because I haven't seen the other films...

But I really want El Laberinto del Fauno (Pan's Labyrinth) to win Best Foreign Language Film.

I'd have to go with Babel.

Little Miss Sunshine!

Duane, when your young you gotta f*** a lotta women. I mean a lot

Where's your grandfather? In our trunk.

LMFAO. I hope Alan Arkin wins best supporting actor too. Too bad Toni Collette and Steve Carrell weren't nominated.
