do most Wesleyan students agree with this writer's assessment?

There's no doubt that New Haven has some excellent pizza -- it's well known for it. In Middletown itself, I think everyone would have agreed that Giuseppe's (across the street from High Rise) was the best, but sadly the owner died this year and his family sold it, so it's now "Cozy Corner II Restaurant." It's still pretty good, but in fairness the only time I went there post-Giuseppe's was the end-of-Passover break-fast so I didn't care that much what the pizza tasted like.

Other good pizza in Middletown includes Illiano's (Washington St. just beyond the overpass) and Empire Pizza (on Main St.). I know Empire delivers to campus; Illiano's might as well. First & Last Tavern on Main St. also has good pizza but it's a more expensive sit-down type restaurant.

Sorry but this isn't even a close call. Pepe is vastly superior to Sally's, particularly in the white clam variety. That isn't to say that Sally's isn't better than just about any other pizza in the USA... but Pepe is in a class by itself.

I recently went to Pepe and was quite impressed with the veggie pizza I got. The same friend I went with and I are planning to make another trip in the near future to compare with Sally's, and I'll keep you updated. :o)

In Middletown, Jerry's also has quite decent but a bit pricey pizza, and is a popular pick on campus.
