Looking to get a copy of Microsoft Office for my new laptop which came with Windows 7. Should I just buy Microsoft Office Student and Home edition online or right here on campus? Where?
Thanks in advance.

search microsoft ultimate steal - 60 or 70 bucks for MSO Ultimate.

It appears that the “Buy Now” button has ben removed from the UltimateSteal website. Anyone use UltimateSteal recently? Have the url you used?

[Microsoft Office Discount for US Students -The Ultimate Steal- Office 2007 Software for $59.95](http://www.microsoft.com/student/discounts/theultimatesteal-us/default.aspx)

still has the buy now button

I found the buy now button there, clicked it, gave my ucla id, never got email from them, now I find the buy now button is no longer there.

Anyone ucla student bought Microsoft Office recently from here or elsewhere recently?

Check your spam. Or reenter your UCLA email address… it looks exactly fine.

Buy…microsoft office? I have a copy if you want.

i don’t get why people would pay so much money (yes 60 dollars is a lot) for the office software.

OpenOffice is free and 100% compatible. Nonprofit organization, too.

Because although OO is free, it’s still not nearly at the level that Office 2007 is. It’s at the level of office 2003…

Mind explaining what 2007 can do that 2003 can’t?

Introduce a confusing and counter-intuitive user interface.

IMO, the interface makes it easier to access the often used graphs/picture editing tools. Takes a bit to get used to (as is true with any new interface - I mean, it’s a change over what’s been used for 10+ years), but it’s definitely helped me do work faster. Chart options are easier to use now too. You may just want to wait for Office 2010, which should have email threading in outlook… Outlook is still a major beast of a memory hog though. There’s definitely more out there and your mileage may vary with the new changes. If you’re not an engineering student and already get OneNote for free, that $60 version is pretty awesome.

the only thing that bugs me about Office 2007 is the the Excel Chart default lines. They look to cartoonish i.'e. thick bold lines. I also hated the default spacing on Word.

I didn’t know MSO Ultimate, sounds like a good deal if you want to be legit.

Open office can be a pain when you’re trying to send a document to another computer to print.

That’s right, Word 2007 is default:
font: calibri
size: 11
spacing: weird.

I hate it

open office spreadsheet software sucks. Ultimate Steal is the best way to go. Keep in mind the new office already has a beta out and should be out in near future.

if you wanna keep it legit, and don’t want to pay anything, sign up for the office 2010 beta testing. it’s free until they release it i believe.
