Hey everyone i got accepted and now i'm trying to figure out where the best place to room would be. Any insight into whether Wolman is better than AMR's or Buildings A&B.

You can choose? Totally wasn’t aware of that…when are we getting the housing forms?

Yea, I was thinking that we all were automatically put into AMR. I heard some stuff about that in my admissions packet… Like communal bathrooms and no air conditioning… I wasn’t expecting much else, but I fear for the winter.

I am and will (again) be a freshmen RA. I’ve lived in Wolman, the AMR’s and building A so I have a fairly good idea of what each is like.

AMRs: Great great great social place. Doors are usually open and the residents usually are pretty close to each other. They come in doubles and singles but the building overall is pretty old. There is no A/C (bring a fan) but there is heating. Common bathrooms but they get cleaned each day. I am here right now as an RA and its pretty fun. Plus you can’t beat location as it is in the heart of campus.

A & B: Kind of suite style. Comes in single, double and sometimes triples. Common bathroom per suite. Central A/C and heating. Some say it isn’t as social but it always depends on the residents.

Wolman: Suite style. Doubles and singles. Kitchenette with 2 stove burners. You may bring other appliances (unlike AMRs). Share a common bathroom per suite. Each floor has a common lounge area with a TV. On the west side of N Charles St and a bit further from dining halls and stuff but there is plenty to do on that side too. Some say not as social, but again its what you make of it.

I’d be glad to answer more questions. And shinashi, for the winter in the AMRs, it was perfectly fine. You won’t freeze to death.

alright i just dont wanna end up in a place where nobody talks to each other. i’ve heard wolman is the nicest place to stay but the least social cause everyones couped up in their suite, which sucks

Like I said, it is what you make of it. I remember when I lived in Wolman, we always were hanging out in the lounge so it really wasn’t anti social. If you’re looking for a place where a majority of the time people are always in the halls or doing something, AMRs are nice. Wolman can get like that sometimes but I know people who live in Wolman and are never there as they are always at the AMRs (and vice versa sometimes).

Also you’ll get your rooming assignments (as well as roommates) during the summer. A questionnaire comes out before that too.

efx2k3, which was your favorite and why?

thats a hard question. i would have to say that i liked wolman slightly more than the rest b/c of the suite style. we had a kitchenette and our own bathroom. i wasnt too keen on a communal bathroom, although they do get cleaned everyday. having the extra door for our suite was particularly nice too. the market was right next to us but unfortunately we were farther from the food hall and gym / classes. plus the lounge in wolman was a def plus
