Could someone tell me where a good place to stay that's close to Academy the night before Induction Day? Somewhere close and reasonable?

If you are coming in by yourself, you can stay in Bancroft.

I did make reservations at the Country Inn for the night of June 28th. They have a hot deal special for $89. Its 4 miles from the Academy with free shuttle service.

My son is being inducted.

How does this all work if you're coming down by yourself? Does the Academy send you a plane ticket? Do you come down the day before?

You will get all the pertinent information in the "permission to report" Packet which will be mailed in (I think) April.

Last year, I believe, they arranged for your plane ticket. (Don't quote me, we drove) The appointees were shuttled from the airport on I-day minus one to Bancroft where they spent the night. They went at their appointed hour to Alumni Hall where they were "processed", then on to the oath ceremony.

There are a lot of good places to stay in annapolis...the Country Inn is good. It's right near the mall, best buy, and a grocery store...not to mention right next to the Marine Corps recruiting office where I signed my life away to the Corps. The Mariot is downtown, it might not yet be full...but then again it might...it's really nice there, it's on the water and walking distance from the academy. Also, check out the Bed and Breakfasts, they're all really awesome and a good place to stay if you like it nice and quiet. And don't forget to get your flowers at Sandi's Flower shop right next to gate 3 (that's my mom's flower shop) she'll send care packages to Bancroft Hall during plebe summer too. She better send me a bunch.

Do you know of a place to stay for graduation (night of May 26) Graduation is the 27th. I can only find one place for 250/night. (Everything else is booked). A little too rich for this wallet.
Thanks,

I would highly recommend the Loews Hotel or the O'Callaghan Hotel in downtown Annapolis. Both are within walking distance and both offer shuttles to the Academy. Many appointees stay in both hotels the night before I-Day. We enjoyed that nice walk early on I-Day. My son had a very early reporting time and we had a nice quiet early morning walk and a quick breakfast in Dahlgren. It was nice not to have to worry about driving that morning. The Marriott has the best possible location to the Academy but I would not be surprised if they are already booked. It would also be the most expensive of the three.

Definitely the Loews Hotel! If you're not into the crowds like the Marriott on the water, it's the perfect location. My mom and I stayed at the Marriott a couple of nights (1 before and 1 after CVW) and I can honestly say that I would have preferred to stay elsewhere. It's a very nice hotel, but too crowded in my opinion. I was looking for a little down time before CVW, and although I had a great time, it wasn't as relaxing as I had hoped for. Maybe it was partly due to the fact that I was meeting someone here from CC who attends UNC (btw, he just recently received an appointment) and I was nervous about that. It was also brutally cold, so I was either shivering to try to stay warm, or my nerves were out of whack. ;)

I work in Annapolis during the Legislative session and know that many of the legislators rent houses during session. I think there is a service called Annapolis Roomfinders that may know of a place available for one or two days. Also contact the person who owns "chez amis" - a small B&B seconds from the Naval Academy- she is very nice and may have something for you. The Loews is very nice - O'Callahan's is new so I don't know much about it.
