Best places to live

My son was recently accepted and now has to complete his residential request form. Any opinions as to which freshman area is best regarding room size, location, etc.? He thinks he wants to be in a co-ed hall; are there differences between those and the single-sex halls? Thanks for any advice regarding dorms. I’m sure I’ll come up with some other questions!

I've lived both in a single-sex and co-ed hall and they both have their ups and downs. I guess it depends with how much you can deal with people of your own or the opposite gender. North is pretty spiffy. The rooms are bigger. It's also close to the humanities' quad. Massel people claim they have it better because of the pond, but I think the pond is radioactive. >_<

The newly renovated dorms (Scheffres and Gordon) are co-ed by room, so by putting down co-ed, your son will have a better chance at being in a new dorm (like Me!)

If you are a humanities person, North Quad is much more convinent to classes.

North is closer to classes, the dorms are bigger, and it's closer to the dining hall with the convenience store and better food. Obviously you will meet cool people wherever you go, North or Massell. I'm living in a single sex hall in North and, like shoshie said, it has its ups and downs. It seems like the all-guy floors bond together better than the all-girls floors do, but guys are always up here and we visit them so it might as well be co-ed. Scheffres, the co-ed dorm, is a very nice building.

I'm going for coed, but it's definitely not for everyone. When I toured, they said that some dorms with coed floors have coed bathrooms, so if you're not prepared for that then it might not be such a great idea.

Is Scheffres in North?

Yes, Scheffres is in North.

I live on a co-ed floor but our bathrooms are separate. We voted and if just one person objected to co-ed bathrooms (as was the case), we reverted to single-sex.

I live in North, but I just want to point out that Massell is closer to Sherman that is the buffet-style dining (which I actually prefer).

I think of it this way- if I have to walk farther to buffet dining, then at least I burn some of it off. :p So that's a benefit for me.
