I am looking into UCLA, USC and U of Miami. All three have the major I want (neuroscience). Which one is the best for pre-med (in terms of both GPA inflation and research opportunities, as well as competitiveness among classmates). I live in LA county, so both USC and UCLA are nearby. Ergo, I know a fair amount about both. I don't know much about U of Miami. So far, I am leaning towards UCLA. Any input you have would be great (including opinions not related to pre-med).

bump… please answer!!

Why Miami, it seems kind of random. Do you have family there?

@plumazul No, I don’t. I like the school a lot, and it has a good biology program. Particularly neuroscience.

^ I assume you are confident that you will be accepted to UCLA. It’s a wonderful school. I was there last summer and enjoyed the visit. If you are concerned about grade deflation, then stay away from Harvey Mudd, but UCLA should be fine. Neuroscience is a fairly common major offered by most major schools.

good luck

USC probably trumps UCLA because of size if your costs are similar.

Aren’t they about the same size? UCLA is in a much better location :)

Actually UCLA is the largest in Cali for UG at around 28,000. USC has around 17,000 in their UG.

^ Total students is only a thousand or so different.

Uh, what math are you using? :o

Now look what you did. You made me look it up.

UCLA reports 40,675 total students
USC reports 38,010 total students

:p

UCLA 28,000 UG
USC 17,000 UG

We are not talking about graduate school.

How anybody would know which school is better for you. You got to visit, talk to current student, attend info sessions, stay overnight, compare programs and EC opportunities and see how student body fits your personality. We can say random things that would have no meanning to you at all. Concept that one school is better than another for absolutely everybody, this type of generic thinking is absolutely incorrect.
