Hey everyone!

I was accepted into UF for the class of '18! (Woo-hoo!) I know that housing contracts will be offered on Feb. 18, so I want a little bit of advice before I just randomly select a dorm. I have FL prepaid, so I will only pick from the FL prepaid approved dorms. The dorms included in FL prepaid are Broward, East, Fletcher, Graham, Jennings, Mallory, Rawlings, Reid, Riker, Simpson, Sledd, Tolbert, Trusler, Weaver, and Yulee. Within those halls, I can only pick double residency. As a girl who isn't that social nor interested in sororities nor an athlete, I was wondering which was the best option. I was also wondering which ones are centrally located? Which ones are closest to dining areas? Closest to the library? Which ones should I completely avoid? Which ones are recently renovated? I should mention that I have a bike, so getting around shouldn't be that bad (I hope). Any advice would be great. Thanks!

I would really recommend Simpson! I was there this year and loved it! I think that for a dorm it is pretty great. If you aren’t social I would say to not stay in Broward or Rawlings. Any of the other ones are probably not too bad, but Simpson is renovated so it is a lot nicer inside .
If you want to be near classes, the closest are Broward, Fletcher, Jennings, Mallory, Rawlings, Reid, Sledd, or Yulee. The closest to dining areas are East, Riker, Tolbert, Weaver, Broward, Fletcher, Jennings, Mallory, Rawlings, or Reid. The library is close to Sledd and Fletcher.
The only other hall I know of besides Simpson that has been renovated is Broward, but only a part of it has been renovated so far. I’m not sure how much more will be renovated next year, but as I mentioned earlier, if you aren’t social Broward isn’t a great choice for you.
Considering you have a bike, I think you would most enjoy Simpson, Trusler, Tolbert, East, or Weaver. They are in a more quiet and studious setting, close to places to eat, and not too far to get around campus especially with a bike.

@dflorida Thanks!! I really appreciate the advice. I will definitely add Simpson. I’m not sure what other 2 dorms to add to the contract when it becomes available. But, I know I definitely won’t add Broward, as many people have told me that it gets really rowdy. I was also wondering if you could tell me a bit more about what it was like. I understand it is more quiet, which I like, but any other info would be great.

Does anybody know what time the UF housing contract opens up tomorrow at? I want to be able to get my dorms picked.

The housing contracts are offered starting Tuesday, but room sign up starts in April/May. See the link below for key dates for Fall housing:

http://www.housing.ufl.edu/undergrad/apply/fall/

Based on when you submitted your $25 fee, you may be in “Early Room Selection”, “Standard Room Selection” or “Later Room Selection”.

Sign up is in April to give folks time to decide between UF an any other schools. Remember that scholarships and FA don’t come out till March (or early April).

Good Luck!

@Gator88NE Thanks! I know that the housing contract opens tomorrow, but I just wanted to know at what time so that I could be prepared. I know that the room selection isn’t until later. I got the standard room selection, but I’m not sure what that exactly means.

Oh, and I was wondering if you knew what Sledd, Fletcher and Simpson were like, if you could give me more info. I know Simpson was recently renovated, but I also like the historic charm of Sledd and Fletcher.

Sorry, can’t help you with that…I spent two years in that zoo called Jennings Hall. Most of us Freshman, back in the day, where in Jennings or Broward.
