Best Preparation Books

What are the best preparation books for all the categories?

Thanks

The. Official. SAT. Study. Guide.

Thanks. However, many people say that for example Gruber’s is better for math etc. Any other study books available that focus on critical reading and writing?

Look, 99% of prep books are scams. There are no strategies that you can’t figure out by taking practice exams.

Just get the blue book, take all the exams under timed conditions, learn from your mistakes and figure out what strategies work best for you, and you’ll see a good score increase.

I went from a 2040 to a 2340 using this method.

Arachnotron, I am also using this method, could you mind to tell me how long it take you to get there?

Well, my score progression looked like this (I kept track of it):

Real SAT - 2040
Practice PSAT 1 - 214
Practice PSAT 2 - 217
Practice PSAT 3 - 212
Practice PSAT 4 - 220
Practice PSAT 5 - 229
Practice PSAT 6 - 230
Practice PSAT 7 - 232
Practice SAT - 2280
SAT - 2340

Took about 9 months.

^ Hmm, why’d you practice with PSATs instead of SATs? I’ve been practicing with the BB SATs but did do one practice PSAT last week and got a 238(0), about 100 pts higher than my BB scores. I figured it didn’t really mean anything because the PSAT is easier than the SAT. But your practice PSATs seem to mirror your SAT pretty well…

PSATs were shorter. They’re made of old SAT questions, so it’s not “easier” in the question sense.

woah, Arachnotron, i was the same!

my first psat back in soph year was like… 203

then i studied a crap load during junior year by doing a bunch of practice tests over breaks and got a 2350 on my first sitting.

edit: i used the collegeboard blue book, princeton review’s 11 sat’s, and skimmed barron’s 2400 in the bookstore.

i like this method of yours Arachnotron i think that im going to use it. i always see my sister studying and going to extra classes but i think your method is much better thanks.

To Arachnotron, where did you get those practice PSAT tests? Thanks!
