Best residence hall?

Which residence hall would you say is the nicest to live in, and do freshmen generally pick any one hall?

First-years are housed in either Lyon, Wig, Mudd-Blaisdell, or Harwood. You don't get to pick which dorm you live in; head sponsors place you according to your housing form and which sponsor group they feel like you will fit best with. Each dorm kind of has its own personality. Mudd-Blaisdell is the only one with air-conditioning, and the bathrooms are pretty nice. Some people might say it's the nicest dorm that houses first-years. It tends to have the smallest rooms for first-years though (they have the smallest doubles on campus, ~150 sq ft). They just renovated Lyon last summer, and they have the biggest rooms, but they are all doubles. The rooms have ceiling fans and the bathrooms are really nice. The dorm is made of cinder blocks though, but the renovation tried covering some of them up with a purple wall. The kitchen and lounge are by far the nicest. Wig is going to be renovated this summer. The doubles are big, and there are a few singles. The bathrooms are probably the worst, though spacious. They might change them in the renovation and might put ceiling fans up as well. The last dorm, Harwood, hasn't been renovated in a while, and the halls are dimmer than the rest of the dorms. The bathrooms are all right, but most of the rooms in Harwood are singles (the few that are doubles are generally pretty big). All the dorms are pretty good, except for maybe Harwood, depending on whether you want a single or not.

Never fear: when you are an upperclassperson you will likely have a spacious single. In the meantime, Mudd-Blaisdell would be (I think) the best-- close to Frank (a dining hall), with the a/c and nice furniture that is only a few years old.

Don't stress too much about which dorm you are assigned to. None of them are terrible.
