Hi guys,

I'm thinking about making a trip to UNC pretty soon and I was wondering what the best and most popular restaurants around campus were? It be great if I could get some suggestions so I can plan out my trip a little better. The more the merrier. Thanks for the help!

We like Mint (on Franklin). Great Indian cuisine, by NYC standards.

On Franklin St. -
Spanky’s - the guacamole burger is SO GOOD.
Franklin St. Pizza & Pasta - if you want a quick pizza or pasta fix… Love their Greek salad and special pink sauce.
The Yogurt Pump - the best frozen yogurt EVER. Need I say more?

In Carrboro -
Elmo’s Diner - amazing breakfast food. You have to get breakfast. The omelets and biscuits are my favorite!

Oh gosh, now I’m hungry… ; -)

Ooh, I definitely second the Pizza & Pasta recommendation (and The Yogurt Pump, or YoPo, one). Their penne and pink basil sauce is to die for.

Yuuuummmm, the penne in the pink basil sauce is my fave. And then you have to top it off with YoPo… LOL.

**ski’s is my cheap food favorite, along with Cosmic Cantina. If I want to go pricier, I am obsessed with 4/11 West.

Bandido’s is my absolute favorite place to eat on Franklin Street. That and YoPo

Restaurants my family has enjoyed when visiting UNC are:

-Breadman’s (Breakfast) on Rosemary St.
-Pepper’s Pizza
-Spanky’s (American Food)
-Carolina Brewery (American Food)

The last 3 are all on Franklin.

Squids is the best restaurant in Chapel Hill, hands down. Exquisite mahi-mahi and homebrewed hush puppies coupled with great service lends credence to a quintessential southern seafood environment.

If you’re looking for something a bit less formal, possibly for lunch, definitely check out Sutton’s. Their double cheeseburgers loaded with chili and slaw stand unparalleled by those of any other burger joint I’ve visited in the world.

Here’s a great resource-- I think it’s been posted on this forum in the past, but it’s been updated pretty recently. This website gives an overview beyond the Franklin Street Faves.

BUNS!!! I cannot believe it has not been mentioned yet. Best burgers in town, with huge amounts of fries, regular or sweet potato.

Vespa- Italian is terrific. Acme- great weekend brunch - down a bit in Carborro. Top of the Hill - food is pretty good, kind one of those things you should do - sit outside looks over Franklin street if you sit outside.

Carrburritos and Elmos!

definitely spanky’s. went there on saturday and it was incredible. i had the guacamole burger but had chicken breast instead of the burger. very, very good. their fries and homemade chips are excellent also. very good american food.
