Best route to Masters in Economics?

What is the best undergrad degree before going into economics? Would it make more sense to get a BA in economics, or do something like mathematics or BBA in finance? Is a MA in economics the best for an economist job at all? Or is the outlook better for degrees such as MS in finance..

Thoughts?

First of all, in the United States, there aren’t many MA Econ programs (though there are some). The MA is often given to people who drop out of PhD programs which, according to my Econ professor, isn’t a good sign for employers.

I’ve talked to my Econ professors about this and they said that the math is actually more important when applying to PhD programs than is the Econ. If you search Greg Mankiw math courses on google he has put up a suggested mathematics course list for aspiring economists. There are a lot, and chances are if you don’t major in math, you have to minor in it. That said, if you can and you want to, major in Econ and just take the extra math classes. Undergrad in what you enjoy.

Thanks, I go to the university of Houston, and we have a MA in applied economics. Then there is a masters in economics that can only be obtained halfway through grad school.
