Hey guys, I'm not an AP student - I'm and IB student and although i havent even touched a practice test for either, i can already feel trouble since the tests mostly relate the AP system. In IB, im a HL maths student that gets a 7 and a HL physics student that gets a 7 (if that's worth anything here). So my question is, what books do i need to get the 800's? like hands down. I'm willing to spend the money. Thanks.

Barrons for Math2.

HL Math, SL Physics, here!

I took Math II and got 800 with PR. I feel that it’s either a hit or a miss at times… everyone says that Barron’s covers more topics more in depth than PR, but I find that PR will suffice if you’re an HL math student, which usually indicates competency in the subject. Do the book cover to cover and you should be fine. Feel free to go with Barron’s to be safe.

I took chem as my other test…so can’t help you with physics! My friend in SL physics didn’t study and managed a 760 with syllabus knowledge, if that’s any useful reference.

I dont go to a school that does IB (we do APs), so I dont really know what that means. I used barrons for math 2 (I got an 800 back in november). I didnt use the book much as I learned most of it in the classroom, however the tests were really good because of the high level of difficulty, it ended up making the test really easy! I just took physics in June. I got a 760, which I’m very happy with. I also used barrons for that test (however I only used it a little). My physics class only covered mechanics and some electricity (I didnt take AP) so my teacher went over everything with me. Its easier for me to learn from a teacher, which is how I got what I got. However, the barron’s books for both physics and math 2 were very detailed and had a good amount of practice questions. Hope this helps!

Barrons will get you over prepared. PR is about the level of real test. If you practice with Barrons, then the real test would be a piece of cake.

Just watch out for errors in the Barron’s books. There are many. Princeton Review seems to have fewer (we didn’t find any in the sections we used). My son found quite a few physics and math errors. He double checked with my husband, an MIT graduate and physics teacher. They agreed. Another friend who is a math teacher also found frequent errors in the latest printings of the Barron’s books.

I used both Barron’s and Princeton Review for Math II and Physics. Recommend B’s for Math II and PR for Physics.

Agree with phlogiston… Barron’s for math II and Princeton Review for physics.

I’m in Math SL and I got an 800 on Math II with a combination of Barron’s and the official Collegeboard book. You should be fine if you’re in Math HL!
