Best Sat Prep Book

maybe tehres a thread on this, maybe not. if there is, give me the link and if there isnt please reccommend me some..
my worst section is writing, then math and the CR. however, i really do need help on all of them.

so please reccommend me some. right now i am using PR, Barrons and im going to go to Kaplan in like a week.

I recommend the following books for Writing:

Blue Book (College Board official book)
Princeton Review 11 Sets (for all sections)
Grubers (this book contains a lot of practice for all three sections)
Barron's Workbook for Writing

For Math:

Again, Grubers.
Again, Princeton Review 11 Sets.
Again, Blue Book.

For Critical Reading:

Barron's Workbook for Critical Reading
Princeton Review's Workbook for Reading and Writin
Again, Princeton Review 11 Sets.
Again, Blue Book.
Again, Grubers.
Also, try Barron's 2400 Aiming for the Perfect Score.

For Vocabulary:

Word Smart I, and II, by Princeton Review (the words in it are as accurate as h@$$!)
Sparknotes 1000 (Google this)
Grubers (this has tons of practice in it - totally worth it)

I DO NOT RECOMMEND the following books:

Rocket Review (not a lot of practice - full of "tips" and "test-taking strategies and useless crap" - regret buying this book... want my money back)
All Book Published by Kaplan (remember, Kaplan is the most popular publisher because it is aiming at average test takers)

Some weirdos find the Rocket Review helpful (dunno why but oh well). I am trying to find books that have a lot of practice for you. I improved my score substantially by familiarizing myself with the exams. The more you're familiar with the exams, the higher you'll score.

i concur.

iam in dissent with your choice of Grubers being a good vocab practice book. Grubers is good for MATH ONLY, do NOT get it for VOCAB because it just gives you a ridiculously long list of words without giving you the meaning, and your only wasting your time searching the definitions on webster.com. word smart and kaplan flashcards are definitely worth getting for vocab help. As for Critical reading, just read as much as you can. Doing practice questions will NOT improve your score, trust me, i learned the hard way.

^^^wrong on that. U find patterns and ways of thinking by doing practice tests and questions. I raised my CR from 630 to 710 by only doing practice tests.

BigWeight: I completely agree.

I jumped from 430 on my CR to 650. I am aiming for 750+ on my October sitting, and so far, I downloaded (illegally) some released Q&A exams and did them under timed conditions. I was consistently getting 800. I did A LOT of practice exams. You have to familiarize yourself with question types, and how you attack each passage. After you've done a lot of them, the way you do exams becomes a fixed action. I now feel I am well prepared and BRING IT ON COLLEGE BOARD!!

The only drawback I found on Grubers book is that many of its passages do not contain line numbers. That proved to be troublesome for me. Therefore, I would recommend PR and Barron's over Grubers for CR.

and I also recommend the following books for ALL sections:

PR's How to Crack the SAT (Reasoning Test)
Barron's SAT Reasoning Test

I did over 20 prep books, and my score jumped from 1300 to 2100+. The comment I made above garners my experience. I hope you find it helpful. I am aiming for 2300 this October. Best of luck.

So far I have gotten the most out of the blue book, Cracking the SAT, and 11 Practice Tests (the other PR book).
