I'm currently junior in high school, looking into colleges & tests.
I took PSAT last year, and because I didn't know how to prepare for it, (I hit the practice test books at the last minute) my score was incredibly low. And by "low", I mean really low.

I want to get into a good college, but when it comes to these kinds of tests, I get extremely insecure, telling myself I'll never score high and meet my parents' standard.
I think it's a matter of applying my knowledge in these types of stuff, but when it comes to questions I have no clue about, my mind goes blank.

So I'm looking for a good SAT/PSAT study guide that will actually contain several problems that will teach me how to solve some hard questions and how to apply my knowledge efficiently. Most of the books I looked into have several practive tests, but not enough explanations on questions I get wrong or what I should've done. I want a book that would actually crack into SAT/PSAT.
If you know any books that is close to what I'm looking for or something that led you to accomplish better score & thought it was better than any other books, please comment the title & I'll look into it! Also, any tips on how to be more confident or some little insights on how YOU prepared for your upcoming SAT would be great!

Regarding books that have detailed explanations on how to go about solving problems: I don’t think there is one! I mean, I guess everyone has a different need for how much they want a book to explain but being a junior myself, I was looking for a book like that too!

My best advice would be to go on these forums and look at some of the SAT threads that are open. There’s lots of people who already posted detailed threads on their methods and what they used.

A lot of the threads will tell you to buy the collegeboard’s blue book and use that to the max. I’m doing the same right now and I feel that in order to improve, you’d need adequate practice and understanding of the test.

As for specific sections, for CR, I’d recommend reading some books on this list simply because you can train yourself to read hard texts: [The College Board?s SAT recommended reading list](http://missyween.com/?page_id=13)
I mean, you don’t HAVE to read all of them but if you want to and you want to train yourself, go on ahead! I started reading some of these books just because I used to HATE (and I mean HAATTEE) reading and I struggled with the CR section because of that. But if you train yourself to like reading and to enjoy the passage you’re reading, it might just help you pick up more things about the passage. :)

For Math, I did practice questions from my alg1/alg2/geo textbooks and did practice test sections from the blue book to drill equations and concepts into my head.
