Right now, I am finishing up my sophomore year of high school and I am looking for a private SAT tutor over the summer. My problem, however, is deciding which tutor to get. Should I go with well known companies like Kaplan, Princeton Review, etc.? Or should I stick to local, smaller SAT prep businesses that are not as well known? Are there any differences in quality between more well known courses and local prep courses? Another option would be looking for self-employed tutors on Craigslist and whatnot, but my only concern would be their reputation/credentials. Money really isn't an issue, and since I tend to procrastinate a lot, I feel that I really need to be in a SAT prep course of some sort.

If you know of some SAT prep courses/tutors that really helped you out, please share! Also, I'm from Northern NJ if you know of any good tutors around this area. Thanks!

I have an article about this on this forum. Just do a search for “should you take a prep course for SAT Math”

Anyone have any more advice?

Go to the prep places that all asians go to. You’ll get a higher score going to asian places.

lol can you give me any examples of these places

AllDay28,
Where in NNJ are you?

As far as test prep centers go, I can only talk about Huntington Learning Center as I taught at one for a number of years. The quality of your time there is totally dependent on the quality of the tutor you get assigned to. Over the years that I worked there some of the SAT math tutors were outstanding and greatly helped their students improve, other tutors were less useful and a couple of them were a waste of time and money. The primary factor in your success or failure on the SAT is your dedication to improving, whether that be with a tutoring service or a private tutor. If you are looking for someone to assist you in improving your performance, you will most likely see significant improvement. If, on the other hand, you are looking for a magic bullet, save your money, nobody can make you do better.
