Please help with any success stories in finding scholarship money!
@kitty72 - if you are seeking money to be used for Fall 2019, you are too late.
Figured I would start with that, as many families just realized they can’t afford college expenses.
Our method was to start looking for scholarships the summer before my child’s junior year of high school. We made an Excel list of all of them, and use the junior year to establish what the requirements were and special things that would make her stand out. She started drafting essays the summer of her senior year, and had several different lengths of essays telling her story well developed by mid August of her senior year.
My daughter was in charge of this effort, so while I edited essays and offered constructive feedback, she ran this. In the end, she was awarded an assorted number of wins, totalling around $8,000. We also searched out top merit aide colleges, and once enrolled in a three year BS degree program, she sought out and applied for additional scholarships from the school. She won several of them, each in the range of $1,000 to $2,000 each. She also acquired an on campus job, where she worked 10+ hours a week for pocket money.
She will graduate next week with no debt, a 3.9 GPA and a plan to find a job in her favorite place. We also have no debt from her education.
Best of luck!
In specific - there was no single website with all the scholarships listed. We hunted in various places. Some were scams, so be wary.
I have to agree with the above comments, I know of nothing major left for fall’19 but if you are looking for fall’20 then you are right on time. Use the scholarship names from the threads on CC to make a list. Start googling them to get estimated due dates and application requirements. Use Fastweb as another scholarship source and be sure to check on early acceptance and interview scholarships at your preferred schools. If you are looking at fall’19, check on local scholarships as those seem to have later due dates. Best of luck!
