Best school for photography?

hey, im just a junior now, but i was wondering which schools are best for photography? I've been looking online, but i cant seem to find any good information. Right now my favorite is probably SVA. I've visited SVA, RIT, Bard, and did Pre college at RISD this past summer. Im also going to national portfolio day this Sunday, im pretty excited about going to college.

It can be vastly argued...
Though I think most would say the best photography schools are SVA, SAIC, RIT, MICA, & Brooks Institute. RISD is pretty great too, I think.

Thanks! those are pretty much the schools ive been looking at, i just wanted to know if i was on track or not :)

Spruce,
would you mind sharing your experiences at RISD?
I'm looking to attend a pre-college summer program for photography, but I can't decide!

RIT is pretty well known for their photography dpt. I think SVA and pratt are pretty good too

RIT is well established and reknown, but if I was young and had my druthers, I'd go to Bard if only because I have long enjoyed the work of Larry Fink who teaches there.

Just an FYI...I read on Wikipedia that Brooks just had massive layoffs...I'd be concerned they could close down before the next few years of entering classes could finish their degree.

This is something that can be argued over and over again, but there is no real answer because it vastly depends on the individual person and their desire. Personally, I would take Brooks off of your list because they have degraded greatly over the past few years. A lot of it depends on what kind of photography you want to pursue. If it is to make money commercially than I would most certainly add Art Center College of Design. Their faculty is excellent and their mantra for teaching is to work you excruciatingly hard. In the end it is the person that makes them self a photographer, not the school. I am not promoting not going to school for photography. All I am saying is that there are incredible photographers from many schools (including many who never went to school), from all different areas. What set them apart from anyone else was their desire and passion for photography.

Another thing to add to CAphotographer's post is that if you were to consider going to the Art Center and you have a strong interest in commercial photography, then you must think about what KIND of commercial photography you want to involve yourself in...Art Center's photo program and emphasis on commercial anything is a MUCH different style than the commercial photo taught at say, SVA or Parsons...
California/Hollywood commercialism and advertising and such is a totally different style than NYC's. There is more emphasis on certain things in each location. It's all about the atmosphere and teaching environment and style that you want to be able to employ in the future.

im more into photojournalism/art photo than commercial. thanks everyone :)

Stay away from Brooks Institute. Their accreditation is suspect, and a degree from them is more like a certificate from a truck driving school. Go to a legit college where you can get a BFA or MFA. Brooks is just a money making operation.
