Best School For Someone Looking To Get A Major In CSE or EECS?

Hello, I’m currently going to community college and I plan on transferring out after three years. I want to major in either ECS (Engineering & Computer Science) or EECS (Electrical Engineering & Computer Science). I also want to get a minor in Economics. My plan has been to go to either UC Davis under a TAG (Transfer Admission Guarantee) or to go to UCLA if I could get in. I also want to get a Masters after my Bachelors.

The thing is, there are so many schools worth considering that I don’t know much about. So for my intended major, what are the best schools out there for me to apply to? Also let it be noted I can’t apply to anything that would be too significantly more expensive than a UC since I’m pretty broke. Thank you for the responses!

You might want to define your gpa, and then find out which colleges will accept your credits from your community college first.

My GPA and academic prowess will probably be at a level of someone who can just barely get into UCLA or just barely misses it if that’s worth anything. And my community college is REALLY good about the courses being transferable pretty much everywhere. I go to Foothill which is one of the best if not THE best community college in California for transfering.

With the exception of Berkeley EECS or L&S CS, though… Granted, most have poor coverage of Berkeley CS and EE courses, but some have more than others (e.g. Laney, Diablo Valley).

Many UCs and CSUs are good for EE/CS/EECS/ECE. Is EE or CS your main interest?

Ucbalumnus. I actually have no interest in Berkeley (funny enough it for the longest time was my dream school). As a whole I just don’t find it as appealing as UCLA (and since that is the case it’s not really on my mind since it’s a harder to get into school than UCLA). More of a fan of UCLA’s student body, lifestyle, programs, and it’s in LA which would be great for collaborating with other YouTubers (since I run a YouTube channel and want to eventually get really serious about it). UCLA matches up really well with my CC. And I only plan on applying to schools with CSE or EECS as a major just because it’s a really nice and broad major and I’d just generally like to work in the tech field. It’s nice not being tied down to any one focus. As for my main interest I’m not sure, I like both Computer Science and Engineering equally honestly, not really sure which one I prefer, MAYBE engineering. I’d love to work at a company like Google where I could build and program things that make a real difference in our day to day lives.

Although I will say I’d be fine with double majoring in Computer Science and Engineering rather than just that one major if it’s a school where they lack it but are still great for want I intend. Like for example with Cal Poly I’m a little on how good they would be. Some people tell me it’s crap and worst than most of the other UCs and some people tell me it’s amazing and better than all the UCs except Berkeley. And they don’t offer ECS but you could technically just double major. But Idk, as said I don’t have a very stupendous wealth of knowledge when it comes to all the different schools out there.
