Best school I can get into with a 2.8 as a comp engineer?

I went into community college and did fine for the first 1.5 years. But then my grades have gotten much much worse to the point where I hit 2.8. I have been trying to get out for the past 2 years now and it's not doing me any good as I haven't gotten accepted to anything. I live in So Cal. I applied to UCSD when the requirement was a 3.0. My GPA was a 3.2 at the time and I finished my IGETC. The problem was that I had failed Linear Algebra that time. I still had a 3.0, but I think UCSD requires me passing everything with a C or above. Then I tried to take some time off of my major prep to take filler classes to boost GPA. But I already had so many classes that it didn't boost my GPA much. The next year, my GPA got a little worse and I applied to UCI, UCSD, and SDSU. Still got rejected. Don't know how I will ever get out. What is the best school I can get into? I've been in community college for 4 years now....

Any school in the US. Or Canada.

What are your career goals? Why not a CSU? Your local service area CSU is a near guarantee admit from a CCC.

for engineering major, most of UCs require around 3.2 to be qualified or at least compete with people. If all of your math, engineering courses and physics GPA is not 3.2 average ( excluded all the GEs or whatever other classes are), there is not that many chances. On the other hand, if you have good GPA in your major area, and those GE courses pull your GPA down, you can still get into like UC Davis or something. State is not a bad system, if you graduate from state university with 3.5 and up average, companies still love you as much as they do to UC students.

You can " try " to get into UC school with other majors that only requires 2.8, and then change your major once you spend a semester or quarter there. But that’s not always working.

San Jose State for fall 2011 admitted transfer students to the computer engineering major with a 2.60 GPA. Of course, the threshold GPA may change this year, depending on the popularity of the school and major. Related majors had different thresholds for fall 2011: computer science 3.00, electrical engineering 2.60, software engineering 2.00.

[SJSU Admission](http://info.sjsu.edu/web-dbgen/narr/admission/rec-1211.html)

Other than that, you should be able to get into CSUs which offer your desired major and are not campus or major impacted.

Thanks for the replies guys. Any other CSU suggestions?

Just a thought, but you are a long shot for Virginia Tech as well.

What do you mean by that? I’m fine with any school really. As long is it’s decent and I can get a good job and all that. I’m not expecting to go to any ivy league or berkely or anything. I would want a public school too since I don’t want to pay for private uni. How about Cal Poly Pomona?

UCR will probably take you. Despite the bad rep, the computer science and engineering department there is decent. Don’t give up applying to the mid-tier UC’s though, try to show the colleges something new each time in your essays, ECs, etc.

San Jose State is located in the Silicon Valley and is also a decent choice with its strong engineering program. These are just a few choices, there’s definitely a decent college that will accept you even with that GPA. Research these (locations, life, environment, weather, etc.) and find the best match for you.
