Best school to go for engineering

Hi guys, i'm a high school senior and cannot decide which college to go..
I want to hear you guys' opnions.

Purdue-accepted (Nuclear)
Virginia Tech-accepted (Aero&Ocean)
RPI-waiting (Nuclear)
UIUC-accepted (Nucler, decided not to go here.. too expensive)
Rutgers-accepted (BME, Business)

I'm interested in both OE and NE EQUALLY. It makes impossible to make a decision.. Hows marketability of OE?
If I don't think about the majors, which one is better? Purdue or VT?

Please help me out!! T_T

I was going to say UIUC, but since you don't want that, I will say Purdue and then RPI comes after..best of luck, but you really should look to see if the school has a good double major program...like most schools have Electrical and Computer engineering together and Aerospace and mechanical are usually together, so see if the school has programs like that for ocean and nuclear engineers ,, and from what I heard you should definitely double major because nuclear engineering has really been a dying field...slow and painful but nevertheless dying.

Thank you for your advise Pre-med.. What about OE? Is OE field dying too?

I believe OE as a distinct field is dying, although it will live on as a subfield. Even MIT, which has had one of the premier OE programs in the world for decades, has elected to merge OE into ME.

http://web.mit.edu/catalogue/degre.engin.ocean.shtml#under

Choose Virginia Tech!!...Our Aero and Ocean programs are very very good. The athletic and social scenes are better than Purdue--and the campus is much prettier and the environment awesome.

Also, if you are an out-of-state applicant and if Ocean Engineering is not offered by any college in your home state, you can receive instate tuition.

If you havent visited already, try to schedule a visitation date sometime soon. You will be very very pleased with Virginia Tech. I promise.

hows the class size of engineering classes at VT?
Is that a big school as Purdue? I don't know anything about VT..
Could you tell me little about VT?

Wonderful Engineering school, great athletics, beautiful campus, good social scene---Virginia Tech is a wonderful experience.

Class sizes are a bit bigger considering that the school has 25,000 undergraduate students. However, for engineering, there are many world class facilities with multitudes of professors, which helps to cut down on big class sizes.

Virginia Tech consistently ranks among the top engineering schools in the country. Excellent academics combined with great social and athletic scenes helped to solidify my College decision. I chose Virginia Tech over the University of Maryland College Park Engineering, Penn State Engineering, and NC State Engineering...and I have no regrets whatsoever.

Thanks VTengineer, do you think they also offer instate tuition to international students?
and hows Blacksburg like? I really want to visit the campus, but i can't..

http://doom79.com/VT.rar

This is a bunch of pics from VT that I took last Friday.

http://www.unirel.vt.edu/vtsnaps/ There are some more misc. pictures from around the Virginia Tech campus.

Im not too sure about the specifics of tuition for international students. Im sure that you could find more information here:

-Virginia Tech-

stunna and VT, Thanks so much!

VTEngineer18, i agree with you. Virginia tech is the bomb. Very inexpensive too for such a prestigious engineering school. Im at penn state right now and i'm not sure but i think PSU tuition is higher that VT tuition. PSU is also not very generous when it comes to financial aid. I checked the website and it looks like we have the same exact chem E semester by semester curriculum.Credits from PSU are easily transferable to VT. Im currently a freshman and im seriously considering transferring to VT.

You really should transfer to Virginia Tech...

Im from Maryland and chose VT over PSU Engineering, University of Maryland Engineering and NC State Engineering. I honestly and truly believe that Virginia Tech has a better Engineering program than the aforementioned schools.

If you need anymore info concerning Virginia Tech...Private Message me...I would love to help.

I agree with both of those above. Virginia Tech is top of the line for engineering education along with a fantastic social scene, athletics (Hokie pride!!), job placement, and atmosphere.

Have VTEngineer or Compgeek heard anything about Clemson? I'm also a senior, deciding between VT and Clemson. Please put your personal bias aside, I'm curious. I've had a response from a person that said the academic differences between VT and Clemson are negligible, and I should choose where I'm most comfortable...I'm visiting VT next weekend (4/21) and have already visited Clemson. Thanks

My brother went to Clemson for comp sci so yes I know quite a bit about it. I personally would recommend VT for ocean/aero, but I think you'll be impressed enough when you visit.

oh for the love of god VISIT!!!

there's like 3 people here extolling the virtues of the non-academic life at tech but personally i've always felt its just like the 13th grade (ie stupid drunk kids going out and flipping cars over after a kegger because the football team won) if you like that, great...if not....vtech isnt for you.

and blacksburg is in the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE! there is NOTHING to do, trust me,i live about 45 mins from VTech.
