<p>I am personally familiar with three of the above recommendations (Middlebury, Dartmouth and Georgetown) and agree completely. All have strong on-campus language programs combined with extensive study abroad opportunities. </p>
<p>Middlebury- LAC in small, picturesque Vermont town. Has its own ski area. Lots of lanuage-specific housing opportunities.</p>
<p>Dartmouth- Ivy League with LAC feel. Best international programs in Ivy League (Students have opportunity to study abroad numerous times because of D Plan). Rassias (drill) method of teaching foreign languages developed here. (Dr. Rassias still on faculty). Happy students, devoted alums.</p>
<p>Georgetown- If majoring in a foreign language, the prospective student applies to the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics which is part of the College. Of the three, I believe Georgetown has the most international "feel" on campus because of its location in DC and large proportion of international students. </p>
<p>All three are great options and for someone interested in languages are, in my opinion, better than than Princeton, Yale, Harvard, etc. who make it more difficult- because of curriculum requirements and on-campus culture- to study abroad.</p>

<p>Middlebury is THE language school. In terms of breadth though it is probably hard to beat Penn--unless offering Pashto, irish gaelic, twi, wolof, Tagalog, zulu, bengali, gujarata, igbo, hausa, oshiwambo, taiwanese and a whole lot more is average these days</p>

<p>Seems a bit misleading, right? Sure, they have an option to study abroad, I believe, 3 times maximum, but aren't the terms shorter? People at most other schools could study abroad at least twice, for longer semesters, though I'd prefer a year in one place, especially if I were a language major. I think study abroad should be largely about depth, not breadth (or else it's more of a vacation.)</p>
<p>That said, I heard Dartmouth is greadt for languages. And Middlebury is fabulous.</p>
