I wish to become a sports journalist. Im an A student involved in many extra curriculars and scored a 1050 on the SATS as a 7th grader. Right now im a junior at a very prestigous prep school. if i wish to become a sports journalist should i try to major in journalism or take a grad program...and if so what schools should i consider ( i live on east coast)

My daughter also wants to be a sports journalist. Keep in mind that you do not need to major in journalism in order to be a journalist AND that most schools require a minor or a second major along with journalism.
Some of the most popular colleges with good journalism/comminications programs are:
Syracuse, Northwestern, NYU, Missouri, U Miami, Penn State, Vanderbilt (which has a scholoarship specifically for sports journalism), American U, Tulane, USC
Other lesser known ones that I know of are:
Ithaca, Marist, UMBC
I'm sure there are many many more, and others will surely add to this post. Good luck to you.

I know that Northwestern is good.

I should think you would have plenty of quality advice. What sports writer do you admire or is your favorite? Have you looked into their path and contacted them for suggestions? What is your favorite sport? I would think that you might look to a school with an big sports program and attempt to write for the school paper. Do you currently work for you school paper and cover sports? Have you looked into summer opportunities for journalism? Many programs are available.

Missouri-Columbia is definitely the best, Northwestern comes close.

Most journalists I'vew talked to suggest a second major, especially if you are already a decent writer.
