Best schools for Masters of Accounting

I was wondering if anyone had a list of the top schools to get a masters of accounting at. I saw this list on the forum http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/business-school-mba/664304-best-schools-earn-macc-masters-accounting.html however it's a few years old. I tried looking through USNews but they lump schools with only MBA programs and no Masters of Accounting programs in with schools that have the Masters of Accounting. I'm solely looking for the Masters program not an MBA.

I would go to a school that has strong Big 4 recruiting. Probably T50 schools. Many MAcc programs are set up for people looking to get their 150 hours so I don’t think you will really find a lot of rankings.

the mba accounting program rankings from US News are a good indicator of the best schools in the country. it’s almost like getting a la carte dishes (speicalized masters degrees) instead of full course meals (mba) from well-known restaurants. my point is that with specialized degrees, you get the same quality of education and networking in your speicifc field without spending the unnecessary time and money.

Make sure you get your M Acc / MSA from a AACSB accredited Accounting program (not just an accredited business program). At least in Illinois, that is an automatic “qualified to test” - otherwise, each class will be evaluated and beginning 7/1/2013, there are very specific requirements as to semester hours in Research & Analysis in Accounting, Business Communications and Business Ethics.

As far as an opinion on the quality of accounting programs (as opposed to MBA bleed-over rankings), check out the Top 25 from the 2010 Public Accounting Report survey published by CCH Wolters Kluwer. This survey has been conducted for almost 30 years and for decades before USNWR even thought of ranking schools, was the go to guide for relative rankings of accounting schools.

The rankings noted above are for graduate accounting programs. There are separate rankings of undergraduate programs and doctoral programs. For the undergraduate rankings, there are large, medium, and small school rankings as well as a combined ranking. There is a good deal of overlap with the masters program rankings above.
