Can anybody tell me about the best schools for the masters program in journalism and anything about emerson college in particluar

Columbia probably has the best graduate program in journalism, followed closely by Syracuse, U of Missouri, Boston U, USC.

Northwestern, UGA

Columbia, University of Missouri, Northwestern are widely regarded as the best masters level J Schools.

I am not familiar with how Emerson is regarded now. Decades ago, it was well regarded for broadcast journalism, but I don't think it was regarded as among the top programs in that area.

Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism hands down. Columbia too.

How would it look going to Medill with an international relations major instead of journalism?

uga has a pretty good rep. in journalism.

Poison Ivy,
If you plan to be a professional journalist, you don't need an undergraduate and a graduate degree in journalism. If you get an undergrad degree in journalism, you can go straight into the field.

If you choose to get an undergrad degree in international relations, then you probably would need a graduate degree in journalism to become a journalist. Your international relations background, however, would be considered a strength when (after getting your masters) you look for a permanent job in journalism.

I concur. Columbia, Northwestern, Mizzou (UMo), UGa and Syracuse. Also, UNC & BU.

columbia best for print
northwestern for advertising/IMC
missouri strong across the board, particularly photo

these the top three with syracuse, florida, georgia, north carolina, maryland, texas, indiana, iowa and wisconsin a meaty next tier.
