I am FTM transgendered, currently in junior year, and looking for colleges. Anyone know colleges that are accepting and have good support groups? I’m also looking for schools that focus on the arts.
Thanks!
Stats? Budget? Home state? Geographic/size preferences?
It is difficult to recommend universities without knowing more about the OP’s credentials, academic interests and financial needs.
@nw2this Thank you so much! Two out of three of the sites you listed are blocked on my school internet (I go to boarding school), but the one that I could access was very helpful
@Alexandre @newjerseygirl98 Ohh okay. I was thinking of some general suggestions, but specific help would be great too! As far as credentials go, I’m on yearbook and was the president of my last school’s Gay Straight Alliance. I haven’t taken the SAT or ACT yet, but I will this winter. I have a 3.7 GPA, and I’m interested in creative writing and theater. I don’t really have an issue with finances, though I’d prefer not to break the bank. I’m mostly looking at schools in the UK and Canada for that reason, actually, since they’re a lot less expensive. Um, I think that’s it?
Sarah Lawrence sounds great for you. Maybe Bennington, Hampshire, Bard?
Emerson might work as well.
-Gettysburg College
-Ithaca College
-University of Rochester
Gettysburg?!?! Unless there have been major changes in the last three years I wouldn’t suggest Gettysburg. I would thoroughly research this before applying. Best of luck to you!
@TheGreyKing Ooh, I’ve thought about Sarah Lawrence. I’ll look into the others. @newjerseygirl98 Ithaca I’ve looked into, and I’ll check out the others! Thanks! @happy1 Haven’t heard of it, but I’ll check it out. Thanks!!
Emerson official school policy. My sister is a prof. there and confirmed it would be a good place for you to look into. The school specializes in communication and performing arts. Strong creative writing as well. In Boston.

Also my D knows a transgender student who was happy at Wheaton (MA).
Skidmore (NY) and NYU (NY) and University of VT may be worth a look as well.
