Best SEC Engineering Schools?

There are so many SEC football and basketball fans (including myself), so here’s a question to talk about. A lot of best SEC Engineering school lists are outdated… So let’s start a new one! With that said, the question is… What are the best SEC Engineering schools?

Here are all of the SEC Schoos ranked by US News Engineering Rankings:

  1. Texas A&M (11)
  2. Vanderbilt (36)
  3. Florida (42)
  4. Tennessee (60)
  5. Auburn (65)
  6. Missouri (89)
  7. Kentucky (94)
  8. Louisiana State (99)
  9. Alabama (104)
  10. Arkansas (104)
  11. South Carolina (104)
  12. Mississippi State (120)
  13. Georgia (123)
  14. Mississippi (N/A)

It looks like Kentucky beats South Carolina 104-94.

@Dunboyne I guess that means Kentucky wins it all!

Isn’t it crazy how Georgia is ranked high in US News but have a poorly ranked engineering school?

Georgia only recently re-established its engineering division, since the state’s flagship for engineering majors is Georgia Tech. Since most of its majors (except for the previously existing agricultural engineering major) are new, it can take time for it to get ranking visibility.

^^^ You’re definitely right. Here is an interesting question. If Georgia builds on their new engineering school, could they take a lot of recruits away from Georgia Tech?

Georgia Tech is one of the top engineering schools in the world, right up there with MIT and the like. University of Georgia will never approach that level for engineering, nor should they even try. That would be a waste of resources.

They are all good schools with rich traditions. Main thing is the accreditation. My son looked at Ark, Ala, Miss St, and Ole Miss due to OOS scholarships for high ACT and GPA. All good schools but he chose Bama. The facilities are unreal.

As are the outcomes for good students.

@raven2016 I really like Alabama based on when I visited with a counselor. Could you tell me more about the facilities and what the engineering school is like?

By counselor, I mean a representative came to my school from Alabama and she blew me away while we were talking. I am just a sophomore, but I am curious

There are plenty of great engineering schools, but I guarantee you will not find better facilities than Alabama anywhere in the country. A million square feet of brand new state of the art labs and classrooms.

Visiting the campus will really blow your socks off! It was pretty easy to talk to students about what they liked about UA. The faculty, the facilities ( engineering is just incredible and they are getting a good reputation), and the ease to get around in a big school, felt like a smaller school. My son is studying mechanic engineering and just loves it. He just felt it was a good fit for him and I could not agree more.

Thank you for the input, @raven2016 ! I have heard a lot about that from Alabama alumni. Personally, my family is from Louisiana so we are all LSU fans. However, I’ve never seen a school so connected in my life like Alabama. Roll tide! ( Don’t tell my dad I said that or he will kill me  )

lol…roll tide

Hmmm, Geaux Tigers.

But anyway, the answer to the question depends on what type engineering. Different schools will have different strengths (chemical engineering, mech E etc.). Go to LSU if you want Petroleum Engineering, of course only a few schools offer that and I’m not sure any other SEC schools offer it.

Absolutely @Sportsman88 GEAUX TIGERS!!!

Alabama is passionate… but there is not another place I would call home more than LSU. Family has season tickets and I have not missed a game since 2007 (either going to the game or watching on SEC Network, Cox, ESPN, etc. There is just something about it that EVERYTIME I go to Baton Rouge or Kaplan (where my family is from), it always changes me in a great way.
