What type of shower caddies are recommended for communal bathrooms?
Would a hanging caddy such as this one be a good choice?

Looks like it’ll collect a good bit of water which’ll be annoying
All my life I had no idea it had a proper name lol
I have one from LL Bean, it’s a bit pricy, but has been holding up very well on vacations. I’ll be a freshman this fall and will be bringing it with me. They also have different sizes which may reduce the cost.

I have the medium personal organizer.
People tend to use either the plastic rectangle organizer caddy or a mesh bag type with outside pockets. The first one seems to be meant to stay in the shower. I wouldn’t want to haul in up and down the hall and it doesn’t stand on its own.
You will take your carrier and hang it on a hook or sit it on the floor near the shower or the sink while you are in the communal bath. The toiletries bag (#3) is popular with guys, especially as a short travel bag or for the gym, for a razor, shave cream, hair stuff, deodorant, dental needs. They might be too small for a full size bottles of shampoo or body wash, so keep that in mind.
I wouldn’t get a hanging caddy that you showed in your post. The idea is to get something that the kids can use to easily carry stuff to and from the bathroom. And you want it to be something that can be washed out easily. Both of my kids used a plastic bucket-type (not as deep as a bucket) of carrier with a handle. The mesh ones seem to be popular as well. We found them at Harmons but they are all over.
Ah I see. The hanging one is not a good idea. Thanks for all the replies and suggestions! I will look more into the mesh and plastic ones
My daughters’ used plastic caddies from the Container Store. https://www.containerstore.com/s/carry-all-tote/d?productId=11003490&q=shower%20caddy
Their school showers were small and did not have areas/“seats” or shelves to place items. So the caddies worked well on the floor
.
My son’s dorms bathrooms had hooks and small shelves. So he “hooked” his “shaving kit” type caddy (from Bed, Bath and Beyond) to the hooks and took out his** Crew 3-in-1 shampoo:

Go to Dormco, for more ideas on how to outfit your room:

@“aunt bea” Thanks - My DS might prefer that shaving kit type also. Yippy, the BBB 20% off discount shopping event is this weekend here!

Just decide what you will need and what like bar soap is vulnerable to water. Pick something that fits and is easily stored in your room. A towel, A good place to buy basics is a dollar store. I like Dollar Tree. You can find nice, soap, body wash, shampoo and in real brands at a better price. Bottle of shampoo and liquid soap and towel are easy to carry for a quick shower. A shower caddy is a convenience and not a fashion statement.
^^^ Add in toothbrush, toothpaste, maybe mouthwash, razor/shave cream/hair remover, facial cleansers, deodorant…
This is the exact same one I got from Bed Bath & Beyond 2 years ago. I love it because the middle darker pink part is removable, so you can take it out to clean. It also has a hole for your tooth brush and razor. I would keep my tooth paste in that pink part too. Everything else like my shampoo bottle, face wash, loofa, and shower gel would go on the sides.
I like this kind of shower caddy better than the bag type because there’s holes in this one, so water won’t fill up in it. You can just place it on your floor after you’re done showering, or put it on top of a towel (that you don’t mind getting dirty), so it soaks up whatever water is left.
My kid had one of these freshman year:

But lots of dorm/bathroom arrangements don’t require a caddy any more. Suite style living, or caddy/locker type arrangements in the common bathrooms mean they may not need one.
@intparent Thanks for the recommendation! I picked up one for my son and one for my gym locker. I like that it’s flexible and has the handy handle so I can hang it on a locker hook and also on the shower handle.
My daughter used one of these 3M Command shower caddies the past 3 years; they hold 7.5 lb. of bath products. You need a smooth surface to attach the adhesive strips; at the end of the year they come off entirely and do not damage the shower surface:
