does anyone with any experience have any thoughts on this? I have a good sophomore number in the 2890s. Are the rooms in west any good?

thank you!

I here West is really good and always goes the soonest. Latin Way is nice if you like suites.
I'm kinda screwed... my number's under 1700

what are some other nice halls other than west? if i have above the 2700s want a single would i most likely get one and where?

West is gorgeous and Miller has some of the most amazing rooms but the room really matters because others are quite small. If you prefer suites, Latin Way downhill and Wren uphill are your options. I believe every dorm has singles, but Lewis has a ton of them and is a decent dorm if you don’t mind stairs. I lived in Hodgdon, and that was good - the facilities were so-so but the rooms were large, the central location saved a lot of time, and Good-to-Go is right downstairs.

Last year, I believe anyone around 2000-2100 and up can get a single (in Lewis). There are singles in Carmichael that tend to go rather quickly. There are singles in Hodgdon (they go after Carmichael and before Lewis).

There are singles in Latin Way, too. Those are probably the most desirable downhill. Also, South.

Where would sophomores with UNdesirable lottery numbers wind up?

The easiest-to-get-into dorms are probably South, Hodgdon, Carmichael, Bush and Lewis. The only actually bad dorm is Carmichael. Hodgdon smells like sandwiches all the time, but on the plus side, you can get sandwiches like whenever you want. South is far away from everything, but the people who live there always end up loving it. Bush is very small, but convenient to Dewick and is notorious for forging strong communities amongst its residents. Lewis. . . well, I’ve almost never been in Lewis, but I’ve never heard any complaints.
Carmichael is small, dark, and unfriendly, but convenient to uphill classes.

You must have never spoken to anyone who lives in Lewis. It’s notorious for having mice problems (although there luckily haven’t been many this year) and, at least on the first floor, the bathrooms are terrible. At any given time it seems like at least 50% of the toilets are clogged and one of the bathrooms very regularly floods. Other than that it isn’t too bad, though.

I’m not sure if you know this, but Carmichael was recently re-done over the summer (including the bathrooms). As for now, in terms of living conditions, Lewis is much worse than Carmichael (and pretty much every other dorm except maybe Haskell).

hebrewhammer: Some of my best friends lived in Lewis, but they had singles, and were really just overjoyed to have singles. I didn’t hear any complaints, but I also didn’t hear any praise, so I’ll take your word for it.

leprostaist: I did not know Carmichael was re-done. It’s not just the physical infrastructure of Carmichael I don’t like, though, it’s the self-reinforcing reputation of being an unsociable dorm.

carpenter and wilson house are also nice options for sophomore housing

How difficult is it to get a single in South? Would 2641 definitely get me one? My friend and I have an average of 2740 but our friends have really bad numbers and we want to stick together so we’re willing to live in South with them. We’re trying to decide if we would be able to get singles next to each other or if we should share one of the awkwardly shaped doubles.
