best SSAT book?

I know this probably has been posted gazillion times...

But I wanted to know the best one to get. One that maybe includes more of the upper level SSAT. I got the Kaplan, but it has too many different tests on there. It's very thick, but it includes 5 practice tests of the upper level SSAT and ISEE, middle level ISEE, lower SSAT and ISEE.
I was thinking of Princeton's, but they don't have it at the Barnes & Noble over here. So I'll have to order one online, maybe...

And does anyone know when the PSAT scores come in!?
Thanks!

Most people would say it's Princeton, the only problem with Princeton is the lack of a proper glossary such as that in Kaplans (you can actually find the Vocab words online, not too sure where to find the roots). I would say try not to use Barrons or Petersons though.

really? Why not? I was about to use the Peterson's online. I forgot how much it is though.

I used Princeton... it was pretty good - really intensive.

I have used just about every SSAt book I can find and I think that McGraw Hill's book wins hands down. It is a VERY good book, I highly recommend it. I think Princeton Review is not that great ...

why not, prezomar?
I think the princeton book exceeds all the other prep books, it was really way better than anyother...

my friend copied the kaplan vocab list for me from her kaplan book... although i used that too, the Princeton list is better since it includes word roots, and they catergorize the words and give you a study guide too.

The Princeton "dictionary" is quite near pathetic, I'm pretty sure Kaplan has more roots and prefixes than Princeton.

The Princeton book is apparently suppose to be much more challenging though, but honestly they both look pretty much the same to me.

All I know is that out of almost 200 words I memorized from Princeton book...not 1 showed up. Out of all the roots..only a couple roots were on it. So I ended up just knowing it or not knowing it, like I was before all the studying.

PSAT scores come in during December. Schools will review them for a week and then hand them out during december or january.

I got them back a week ago, it's most likely different for each school

Yup I have mine...

Lucky... I just moved here, so I probably won't get them in December, but I want to see if I could use my scores in place of the SSAT before registration ends.

In the end, the SSAT book is the only one I feel that is truly effective. If only they had more practice tests though......

tiger_max...its always good to have an ssat score on file..even if you send the psat also.

The real SSAT book
PR - good for math, decent practice tests, lacking in reading
Kaplan - decent practice tests

At the end of the day, most prep companies don't invest much time or money in the research and development of these tests since it's such a small market share. Of course, it doesn't help that test companies don't release old tests.

Based on my son's experience, doing all of them will yield the best result. And the order should be: Kaplan, PR, Peterson, Barron and McGraw Hill.

i did used kaplan, peterson's, mcgraw hill, the real ssat study book from the site, and princeton review.
i have to say that mcgraw hill and princeton helped me the most.
do NOT buy the ssat test prep book from the site, it's a waste of your money!

haha, really? I thought it helped a bit, but it was awfully expensive.
I used the Kaplan, which was so-so, but my scores rose by like 10% from last year :) but the thing is, I studied for the PSAT over the summer and 2 weeks for the SSAT during the winter break and free time.

I prefereed Princeton's over Kaplan :)
Kaplan has some good verbal techniques, but overall i prefer princeton's review :)

I wish I knew they made these books before I took the test... :)
I came into the whole process of boarding school blindly, and now I wish I had done some things differently.
