Hey guys, I currently have a 3.7 gpa in community college with one year left. I wanted to know if you guys know about any of the advertising programs at the different schools. More specifically usf, ucf, fsu, uf. I need to stay in a public school also.

At UF, the Advertising program falls under the highly ranked College of Journalism and Communications. Start with UF, review the courses offered (and electives), then compare them with the other universities. Find the program that looks like the best fit. You should try and visit a few of the schools and talk with some of the facultiy/advisors.

Good Luck!

UF and FSU are on a different playing field than UCF and USF in terms of rank, reputation, prestige, academics, athletics, campus life, and overall vibe. UCF and USF are very much commuter schools compared to UF and FSU, so if admitted to either UF or FSU, it would be much more advantageous on your behalf to attend one of those schools instead of UCF or USF, especially if you don’t want to experience community college all over again.

FWIW, graduates of UF and FSU tend to be more gainfully employed and have higher starting salaries following graduation because these schools are perceived as being superior to most, if not all, other state schools in FL, up to and including UCF and USF, even if, say, UCF has a better advertising program than UF and FSU.

Also, if cost is a concern, which it seems to be based on your decision to matriculate at community college and desire to attend a state university afterwards, then FSU and UF may be more plausible options because the COL in and around Gainesville and Tallahassee is much more favorable than of Tampa Bay and Greater Orlando, assuming you’ll be living off-campus.
